If you’re a fan of electronic music, like me, and you’re tired of hearing what sounds like the same album being released over and over again by different bands, have I got an album for you to listen to!
Phasers Engage is a unique electronic rock band that blends elements from various types of music including EBM, traditional rock, and jazz along with various drums and rhythmic patterns that all come together to work very well. While at times you could liken it to soundtrack music for a great sci-fi movie, it’s far more than that. Rather than being just repetitive background music, Phasers Engage has created something unique with their sound. Something that’s actually quite difficult to achieve in today’s music world. The music is great at leading you down a path of heavy synths and bass only to catch you off-guard and pull you in a completely different direction that seems both calculated and natural in it’s transitions.
The band makes great use of traditional rock instruments like guitars and there are some really cool solos and phrasing that should appeal to fans of Dream Theater and Joe Satriani’s fusion-style guitar, as well as fans of straight-ahead electronica-type music.
“Awoken Intelligence” was a great choice for the band to release as their first single, as it comprises all of the great musical elements that I’m referring to and makes for a great introduction to the band. I have to say this doesn’t feel at all like a debut album because the music is tight, focused, and more mature than most artists’ first albums usually are.
I highly recommend checking these guys out for the sheer uniqueness of what they are doing within ( and outside of the box) of the electronic rock music genre.
