The 80’s were one of the best times for both great horror movies and heavy metal music. Now, years later, along comes the band Scarefield. Scarefield delivers a solid thrash-based heavy metal album with more than a mere nod to 80s horror cinema.
The band is formed by just two members, Simone Manuli and Markus Kristoffersson. And you would never know this wall of sound was just two people. Amazingly, the album is all written and self-produced by them as well.
“A Quiet Country” is Scarefield’s debut album and what a debut it is! Fans of bands like Metal Church, Metallica, Flotsam And Jetsam, Anthrax, Testament, and Death Angel should love this album.
The songs have very catchy melodies and incendiary solos for the discerning metalhead. The lyrical content runs the gambit of horror-themed ideas that leads your imagination to visualize your own mini-movies to go with the songs.
“A Quiet Country” is a striking debut album that feels complete in both realizing the element of horror as well as creating quality heavy metal music. The first single “Child Of The Corn” has some great riffing and guitar melodies not unlike Kirk Hammett’s style from Metallica, but without feeling like it’s duplicating it.
Clearly, these guys are talented, and along with “Child Of The Corn”, songs like “Ancient Evil”, “God Of Terror” and “Shiver” lead the way in showcasing that talent. I’m very interested to see what this pairing does for a second act because this debut album is really well done and it’s not hard to see these guys progressing both lyrically and musically to be a true force to be reckoned with as their chemistry develops.
