Originally in a band called Wicked Lester, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley decided to start a new band. That band would ultimately be called “KISS,” and the original lineup would also include ACe Frehely on guitar and Peter Criss on drums. The band released their debut self-titled album in 1974, with an emphasis on theatrics and outlandish costumes and face paint that set them apart in the rock scene. By the ned of the 70s, the original lineup was beginning to fracture, and eventually both Peter Criss and Ace Frehley would depart. The band would feature Eric Carr on drums until his death in 1991, and Eric Singer would take over from there. Guitarists who came after Frehley were Vinnie Vincent, Mark St John, Bruce Kulick, and Tommy Thayer. Simmons and Stanley were the only members of the band to appear on every album.
