The Unknown was formed smack dab in the sweet spot OF MELODIC ROCK/AOR music, in 1987. A mainstay on Florida’s west coast, the truly AOR band started gaining a following with each show played which then yielded bigger and better gigs. They were eventually asked to play spring break gigs in Ft. Lauderdale, one of the mecca’s for college students on vacation. There was a theory behind this…The Unknown drew lots and lots of girls to their shows and the boys would follow…the band was untouchable and could play anywhere they wanted on the Florida scene.
The band won the Southeast Regional Budweiser Battle of the bands (taking second place in the National finals) and A&R scouts started taking notice. Eventually, EPIC Records signed the band in 1992, but had the band change their name…they were now known as Blackfish…who released a major album release, although be it as grunge worked its way in and AOR/melodic rock was ushered out of the mainstream.
In 1989, The Unknown released their first and only album “Big Dreams”…a self-financed true gem that now fetches about $150 on eBay – but knows you can get the remastered version of it for a normal price thanks to FnA Records.
Big Dreams contains 8 rocking tracks and is available on silver pressed CD, as a fan pack autographed by two founding members of the band, as well is available on vinyl and by digital download.
