Now this is what I’m talking about. Here’s a band that I’ve never heard before and after hearing this great album, I’m left wondering how I could have possibly missed them. With soulful, gritty vocals and bluesy distorted guitar that reminds me of early Angus Young’s work in AC/DC, who the hell wouldn’t like this?
The AC/DC comparison is relevant throughout the entire album, and it fits the raspy vocal style of Robert Zawisza to give it a real cutting edge, and yet it has a magnificent minimalist sound to it at the same time. It’s recorded to sound like the band is in the room with you and it really adds a charm and warmth to the album.
Guitarist Paul Joseph knows exactly when to pause and build anticipation and when to go all out. Starting with the opening track “Liven Free”, it’s easy to realize that you’re onto something special here and you’re not going to be let down when the band rolls into the second song “Hell Hounds”. Occasionally, the vocals remind me of a grittier-sounding Billy Squier. So, if you can imagine AC/DC with Billy Squier on vocals you’re getting an idea of what this band brings to the table. Every song on this album sounds like an instant classic. I’m simply blown away by this band. I’m absolutely not taking anything away from the musicianship, but it’s so refreshing to hear a straight-ahead raw rock-n-roll band in all of its glory make this seem easy. I absolutely encourage any and all rock fans to check out “Wired For Power” by 100 Watt Vipers. It has to be one of the best rock n’ roll albums that I’ve heard in years. These guys won’t be a best-kept secret much longer making albums like this. I simply can’t wait to hear more by this lineup. The band has an undeniable chemistry that translates into one hell of an infectious sound!
