Filter is always creative with each album outing and their latest, “The Algorithm” is no exception to that rule. This album sees Richard Patrick really reaching for the stars with insightful lyrics, poignant topics and some great new songs that push the envelope a little further with some really fresh and inventive music.
The album starts out with “The Drowning” which is a perfect introduction piece, quickly followed by the slamming “Up Against The Wall”, but for me one of the highlights of this album has to be the incredible anthem “For The Beaten” which is an absolute masterpiece of modern rock. Unlike any song I’ve heard before, the beat builds tension and then releases to a serene, reflective place that then easily transitions back to a beat that slaps you right in the face. The lyrics tell an incredible story that meshes with the music in a perfect balance. “For The Beaten” may be the best single that Filter has ever released. It’s imaginitive, powerful and beautiful all in one single song.
“Face Down” is another song from “The Algorithm” that’s so good you have to hear it to believe it. A perfect companion piece to the aforementioned “For The Beaten”.
What Richard Patrick and company have been able to do on this album is nothing short of remarkable. Patrick is a storyteller and with this album he paints picture after picture with lyrics like an artist with a paintbrush. Every song belongs on this album and contains no filler. It’s a complete album of aural bliss.
You absolutely need to set aside some time, put on your headphones and listen to Filter’s new album “The Algorithm” from beginning to end. This an epic album not to be missed and will be ranked as The Best Album of 2023 on many critics and fans’ lists alike.
Do not sleep on this album! It’s absolutely brilliant in every way!
