Five Finger Death Punch Is The Nickelback Of Metal

Anytime you write an article like this, you’re going to get some salty comments about your opinion. And that’s okay. I’d expect nothing less.  However, my opinion remains the same. And my opinion is that Five Finger Death Punch are one of the most generic “so-called” metal bands that you’re going to hear.

I won’t argue with their success. They have been able to sell a lot of albums to a lot of people…just like Nickelback has.  When Five Finger Death Punch first hit the scene, all I heard was that they’re going to be the new Metallica for today’s generation. Wrong! Not even close! Five Finger Death Punch sold out the minute they released their first album, at least it took Metallica a while before they did it.  Selling out to try to be a mainstream metal band doesn’t equate to good music. The band members of FFDP are all incredibly talented musicians (also like Nickelback), but they have crafted a sound that’s so boring, predictable and lacks originality.  I don’t think it’s an accident either.  Going into a studio and crafting songs that will appeal to white guys who live in a trailer and have an extensive wardrobe of wife beater shirts and lounge pants really isn’t all that hard.  In fact Nickelback did it first…hence the comparison.  I honestly have tried to like the music of FFDP since the beginning.  With each album, that I’ve bought, I’ve been hopeful that they’ll impress me with something amazing and different. But each time, I get an an album that sounds over-produced and ran through pro-tools to create a sense of sterile perfection. I feel like I got Five-Finger-Dick-Punched every time. It’s like they took everything that I hate about bands like Limp Bizkit, Disturbed and yes…Nickelback and magnified it into one angry ball of hate that’s just friendly enough to make radio airplay, but not interesting enough to last past the last song you heard.

Go ahead and try to prove me wrong…but I don’t think you can!
