Mike Tramp has released the first single from his new upcoming solo album that is sung entirely in Danish. The song translated to English means “He We Want To Be”
Mike Tramp is probably the only person ever to sing about Jolly Cola, Beatles, sauerkraut and karate on the same album. It happened on “For the first time”, which was released in 2022 and was Mike Tramp’s first album ever in Danish.
With “Man of a time” he does it again. This time the songs are about everything from Andy Warhol’s fifteen minutes of fame to Ingrid and Little Brother, Muhammad Ali, Ole Olsen and fried duck. Again it is happening in Danish.
Thus Mike Tramp shows that it wasn’t a joke when after more than 45 years in English, to the surprise of most, he published a record in his native language. The Danish songs are a way to tell some of the stories and share the experiences that have gathered together throughout life.
“Many of the people I meet at my concerts have always followed me and we almost grew up together.” I can feel that it means something very special to them that I suddenly sing in Danish. They can recognize themselves in the stories and songs because I’m singing about something that’s important to me. I’m a grown man who has tried a little bit of everything but I’m still here and don’t need to chase the newest trend. I know who i am and i stand by it. Therefore, the record could not be called anything other than “Man of a Time”. ”
Mike Trump’s career is longer and more colorful than most. He has been the country’s biggest teen idol, made disco in Germany and was an MTV star in the United States. With “Man of a time” he resembles, and as he states in one of the tracks on the record: “I have chosen my path and the path gave me the answer / I came as I was”. Or as he describes himself in another song: “Stiff-necked, stubborn and retro, but really okay”.
“In the past, I always wrote songs that would fit a band. That’s why there have been many things that I just couldn’t because I had to live up to a certain image or a particular sound. With the Danish songs I go where the songs require it. Is it a big trouble, well then it is with strings. If it’s a song about the old inns on Vesterbro, then of course it should sound like this too. I grew up with albums where songs could sound different. Such an album is “Man of a Time”. ”
On “Mand af en tid” it means that there has been room for the pure rock numbers such as the album’s title song and “Storm og stil”, the big break-up song “Inside”, the rock hymn “Altid farvel” and not least the glimpses of memories in “Ham vi vil be” and in “Nat på Libelle”, there is a song about Mike Trump’s deceased mother.
As was the case with “For the first time”, all the songs on “Mand af en tid” are written together with LLars Daneskov, and the record is produced by Mike Tramp himself together with S Soren Andersen Music On the record Søren Skov, CClaus Langeskov KKenni Andy Emily Garriock Langeskov and Jørgen Thorup.
The album “Man of a Time” will be released on the 15th. March this year on CD, LP, and digital followed by a tour around the country.
