Ratt was one of the more successful bands of the 80s hard rock scene with multi-platinum album sales and was practically on every cover of every hard rock magazine of the 80s. However, it’s no secret the band’s members have a dysfunctional relationship at best.
Lead singer and band founder Stephen Pearcy has toured for years as a solo artist using the phrase “The Voice Of Ratt” on his tour announcements and rightfully so, since his is indeed “the voice” of Ratt, at least as far as lead vocals go.
Now, bassist Juan Croucier has just announced his own tour dates using the billing of “The Other Voice Of Ratt”. WTF? Croucier has done background vocals for Ratt over the years, but calling him the other voice of Ratt is like calling David Lee Roth “the other guitarist” in Van Halen.
I’m not diminishing Juan Croucier’s talent or his contributions to Ratt as a band, but surely he has to know this looks like he’s picking a fight with Pearcy at this point.
Pearcy has lamented over and over again that he would love to see the classic lineup of Ratt reunite for one last album and tour but it hasn’t happened so far.
It’s truly a “shame, shame shame” that these guys can’t work out their differences and give the fans one last go-round of Ratt!
