Drummer Charlie Benante (Anthrax) and guitarist Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society) will join Pantera’s surviving members vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown on a reunion tour. They are expected to play major festivals and headline their own shows as well.
Original drummer “Vinnie Paul” Abbott and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott are both deceased and this reunion project reportedly has the blessings of their estates.
Considering that there was a lot of bad blood between the Abbott brothers and Anselmo after Pantera ended. Some people are unsure if this is a fitting tribute or a cash grab under the name of Pantera.
It will be interesting to see how the band honors the late Abbott brothers during the shows. Hopefully, it’s a solid tribute to Pantera as the band which was founded by Darrell and Vinnie, and allow the two surviving members to relive performing these shows live again in honor of their former friends and bandmates.
