Limp Bizkit

Limp Bizkit formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994, when vocalist Fred Durst and bassist Sam Rivers began collaborating and soon brought in drummer John Otto and guitarist Wes Borland. The addition of turntablist DJ Lethal, formerly of House of Pain, completed the lineup that would define the band’s early identity. Their fusion of heavy guitar work, hip‑hop rhythms, and confrontational energy helped them stand out in the local underground scene.

After building a regional following, the band signed with Flip Records and released their debut album, Three Dollar Bill, Y’all, in 1997. Touring with major acts helped the album gain traction, and by the end of the decade, Limp Bizkit had become one of the leading names in the rising nu‑metal movement. Their mainstream breakthrough arrived with Significant Other in 1999, followed by the massive success of Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water in 2000—both of which propelled them to international prominence.

Despite their commercial success, the band’s rise was accompanied by controversy, including highly publicized incidents at Woodstock ’99 and the 2001 Big Day Out festival. Internal changes followed: Borland left in 2001, leading to the album Results May Vary (2003) with guitarist Mike Smith. Borland returned in 2004, and the band released the experimental EP The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) in 2005 before entering a hiatus.

Limp Bizkit reunited in 2009 with their classic lineup and resumed touring, eventually releasing Gold Cobra in 2011. After parting ways with Interscope, they signed with Cash Money Records, though DJ Lethal temporarily exited before returning in 2018. Following years of teasing new material, the band released their sixth studio album, Still Sucks, on October 31, 2021, marking a return to their signature blend of heaviness and humor.

Over their career, Limp Bizkit has sold over 40 million records worldwide, earned three Grammy nominations, and released 26 singles, including major hits such as “Nookie,” “Break Stuff,” “Rollin’,” “My Way,” and “Take a Look Around,” all of which charted strongly on U.S. rock radio. The band’s lineup remained mostly stable until the mid‑2020s, when founding bassist Sam Rivers—who had been instrumental in forming the group and recruiting Otto—passed away in 2025. Today, the band continues to tour and perform with Durst, Borland, Otto, and DJ Lethal as its core members.
