Korn

Korn emerged from Bakersfield, California, in 1993, when guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch, bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, and drummer David Silveria—all previously part of the local band L.A.P.D. joined forces with vocalist Jonathan Davis to form a new project that blended heavy metal with unconventional rhythms and deeply personal themes.

The band introduced themselves with the 1993 demo Neidermayer’s Mind, which helped them secure industry attention. Their self‑titled debut album arrived in 1994, showcasing downtuned guitars, hip‑hop‑influenced grooves, and emotionally raw vocal performances.

Their follow‑up, Life Is Peachy (1996), expanded their audience and set the stage for a major commercial breakthrough.

Korn reached mainstream prominence with Follow the Leader (1998) and Issues (1999), both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and solidified their status as leaders of the emerging nu‑metal movement. Their success continued into the 2000s with albums such as Untouchables (2002), Take a Look in the Mirror (2003), and See You on the Other Side (2005), along with a 2004 greatest‑hits collection that marked the end of their early label era.

The band’s evolution included lineup changes: Welch stepped away in 2005 before returning in 2013, Silveria departed in 2006, and Ray Luzier became the permanent drummer in 2007. Despite these shifts, Korn continued releasing influential albums, including Korn III: Remember Who You Are (2010), The Path of Totality (2011)—which incorporated electronic and dubstep elements—and The Paradigm Shift (2013).

Later releases such as The Serenity of Suffering (2016), The Nothing (2019), and Requiem (2022) demonstrated their ability to evolve while maintaining their signature intensity.

Throughout their career, Korn has sold over 40 million records worldwide, earned multiple platinum certifications, and won two Grammy Awards from eight nominations.

Today, Korn’s lineup features Jonathan Davis, Munky Shaffer, Head Welch, and Ray Luzier, with touring bassist Ra Díaz supporting live performances.
