Sleaze Rockers Salty Dog Releasing Live Album…Brotherhood, a key component of a successful band, is what binds a band together. Salty Dog contained those attributes to a “T,” as was evident in their live show.
Salty Dog started out as a club band, eventually playing theaters and then on to Arenas, where the band fed off the crowd’s energy and gave it back in kind. Endless touring and constant rehearsing were part of the magic of Salty Dog’s quick rise. Their live show energy and musicianship could rarely be touched or duplicated.
Having been signed to Geffen Records by Vicki Hamilton (Guns n’ Roses, Poison, Faster Pussycat) the band quickly won over sold out audiences at the Whisky, The Roxy, Gazzari’s and The Troubadour with their own brand of bluesy Rock n Roll (semi-reminiscent of early Led Zeppelin). Salty Dog quickly climbed the ladder of success, playing bigger and bigger venues each night. For the Arena shows, where they were the opening band – Salty Dog would start the party going, eventually leaving the main artist a crowd poised for an overall rock n roll assault.
So whats in a Salty Dog Live show – tight musicianship, laid back but cohesive coordination – a show filled with strength and well…simply put…Piss & Vinegar. The band was known for long jam sessions intermingled amongst crowd favorites. Constant rehearsing allowed for the band to play well amongst one another – with the left hand knowing what the right hand was gonna do and vice versa.
This album is a great example of the solid live show that Salty Dog would bestow upon its most dedicated of fans. The live album entitled Raw Doggin’ Live, features Darrel Beach, the bands second lead vocalist, best known for the Lost Treasures + 3 Golden Jewels released last year on FnA Records. Additionally is guitarist and main song writer Pete Reveen, bassist Michael Hannon, and drummer extraordinaire Khurt Maier.
The “Raw Doggin’ Live” 12 track album is a great example of the solid live show that Salty Dog would bestow upon its most dedicated of fans. While a full show with Darrell is more than enough, also included are 2 live songs by original vocalist Jimmi Bleacher.
The sound on this raw recording was recorded at Bananas in California on 3/20/92. What separates this show from many other live albums is the mix is tight and the band talking is kept to a minimum, allowing for their tight jam sessions to stand out!
