50 Years Ago The Ramones Released Their Debut Album…and the rest, as they say, is history. Featuring just classic songs such as “Blitzkreig Bop” and “Beat On The Brat,” the album became one of punk music’s most celebrated albums. The Ramones are often considered America’s first punk band, and depending on who you ask, possibly the first punk band in the world. The band members used the last name Ramones, which was not actually related in any way. They got the idea for the last name from The Beatles’ Paul McCartney, who used the name Paul Ramon in an earlier version of The Beatles. The original members featured lead singer Joey Ramone (1951–2001), bassist Dee Dee Ramone (1951–2002), guitarist Johnny Ramone (1948–2004), and drummer Tommy Ramone (1949–2014).
