Returning and founding members Ben Jackson, Jeff Lords, and Dana Burnell have returned with new vocalist Travis Wills and new guitarist Mark Borgmeyer to release the band’s first studio album of material in 27 years. So, was it worth the wait? Abso-fuckin’lutely!!!
Longtime fans of the band should be ecstatic to hear this great new album that does their legacy justice and then some. Crimson Glory has a storied career of ups and downs. The band, from Sarasota, Florida, formed in 1983 and developed a following for their unique look, wearing chrome masks, and specifically for the great progressive metal sound that found them often compared to Queensryche. Speaking of Queensryche, current Ryche vocalist, Todd La Torre, was the band’s singer from 2010 through 2013.
But anyway, back to the new album…Chasing the Hydra has some really great songs, both musically and lyrically. New singer Travis Willis absolutely kills it on vocals throughout this incredible comeback album. Standout tracks for me are Broken Together, Chasing The Hydra, Indelible Ashes, Pearls Of Dust, and the album closer Triskaideka. But, honestly, I challenge you to give this a listen and see if you don’t love the whole album in its entirety. The production on this album is really good, with great mixing, and it sounds like one of the epic albums that would have been released during the 80s metal scene. I, and people like me who grew up on this type of music, should absolutely be grateful to Crimson Glory and BraveWords Records for this spectacular album. It has everything a metal fan could want: soaring, screaming vocals, blazing guitar solos, heavy backbeats with the bass and drums, and an overall near-perfect-sounding album.
