Review:

Thomas Gabriel Fischer is one of the few metal performers that can make a project like this work.  The former Celtic Frost frontman has unleashed his vision that has been 30 years in the making and it is incredibly haunting and beautiful at the same time.  I’ll be the first one to admit that avant-garde metal is not everyone’s thing.  Truthfully, it’s not my thing very often, but this live album is on a whole other level.   Its metal, it’s gothic and it’s brilliant.  Imagine if Pink Floyd did a gothic metal opera and you’re getting close to the grandiose experience that this is.  Other bands have collaborated with traditional bands and orchestras, but this is a unique pairing unlike most you’re likely to hear.  It doesn’t take anything away from the original songs and truly enhances the overall emotions and feelings of the material. Don’t let the fact that there are only eight tracks fool you. The running time of the entire concert is well over 46 minutes long. If you appreciate a doom-laden concert unlike any other, you’re in for a real treat.  Triptykon have provided a breath of fresh air with this release during an unusual time of worldwide crisis and it makes for a great soundtrack to the current darkness that we all feel.
