The Cure's Robert Smith Leaves Twitter, R.E.M's Michael Stipe Boycotts Meta
Robert Smith is the latest in a line of musicians and celebrities to leave X (formerly Twitter). Smith posted the following on X announcing his departure:
19TH JANUARY 2025.
TIME TO GO.
ANY OTHER ACCOUNT ON TWITTER CLAIMING TO BE ME IS A LIE.
I MAY FROM TIME TO TIME BE HERE: https://bsky.app/profile/robert.thecure.com…
OR HERE: https://instagram.com/robertsmith/
OR HERE: https://universeodon.com/@RobertSmith…
OTHERWISE I WILL LIKELY BE OUTSIDE.
ONWARDS… RSX

And another prominent figure in the alternative rock world, R.E.M. vocalist Michael Stipe is encouraging users to boycott Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) for one week to protest the advance of far-right agendas in America.
Stipe comments on Instagram: Its so gross. Im really happy to step away for a week as some form of protest—and then I’ll come back and decide what to do from there.
