Ask just about anyone in Leon County, Florida, under the age of 50, what the T in T-Pain stands for, and most of them will proudly tell you that it stands for his hometown of Tallahassee. Ask them again what T-Pain means to the community, and many will tell you, “Everything”. Judging by the all-day block party that he hosted FREE OF CHARGE on October 17th and the performance he gave his hometown crowd that night, I would have to say that the people of Tallahassee mean the world to T-Pain, and he brings that love every time he rolls in off of I-10.r any of you unfamiliar? T-Pain is a blue-collar creator and entrepreneur who has pushed his way to the top by simply believing in what he was creating and sharing what he loves with the world. He’s part George Clinton, part James Brown, and his performances are all heart. His hard work and perseverance have paid off, and it was great to see him share his celebration of Twenty Years of unique R&B, rap, and rock with the people he loves the most. There isn’t one style that confines T-Pain or his music. He has an extensive collection of originals and covers that include rap, blues, rock, gospel, country, classical, and any other music genre you can throw into the blender. What comes out is music that is uniquely his, and he OWNS it. He is everything that embodies what rock and roll is about, and if James Brown hadn’t already earned it, T-Pain could’ve laid claim to the title of “Hardest Working Man in Show Business”. His shows are high-energy, high-quality, and he leaves it all on the stage when he performs for his hometown family or any other stop on tour. It is always a privilege to see him and DJ Montay perform on stage together, especially in T-Pain-hassee.

The T-Pain Twenty Tour is a grueling one-month, 20-show schedule, and the Tallahassee date was right in the middle of them all. The day kicked off with a free T-Pain Block Party on T-Pain Lane, which was renamed last year as part of Tallahassee’s 200th Anniversary Celebration. T-Pain gave a great performance at the Adderly Amphitheater, but his show at the Tucker Center took that performance and added a heaping portion of energy, lights, dancing, and great music. The setlist included more than thirty songs with staples like “Bartender”, “Buy U a Drank”, “Blame It”, “Low”, “On a Boat”, and two dozen other fun songs. The setlist also included several classic rock and R&B songs that included Journey, The Guess Who, and Montel Jordan. Most notable was the cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” that both wowed and surprised fans in the arena. Included on the 2023 Album “On Top of the Covers”, this cover of War Pigs is why I asked to cover this concert. It is soulful. It is innovative. It Rocks!

I will say that my fandom for T-Pain began in 2009, when my wife and her friends auditioned for his “Take Your Shirt Off”, partly on a whim and partly because peer pressure is a b^#ch, and he has been part of our story ever since. Ask us both what the T in T-Pain stands for and we will both proudly tell you “Tallahassee!”, (and my wife was born in Gainesville). For fans of college sports, that should tell you all you need to know about what T-Pain means to HIS community. His performances are everything you could ask for and I would recommend catching him anytime you see him coming to your town. The thousands of fans that danced all night in Tallahassee would tell you the same.
