Sodom is one of the great thrash metal bands to come out of Germany. Originally released in 1992 “Tapping The Vein” was the band’s fifth album and went for a thrash/death metal crossover style. This incredible Box set features 3LPs and 2 CDs with over 4 hours of pure metal mayhem. The vinyl LP’s are colored with black and red swirls and look absolutely killer! And if that wasn’t enough it has a 24-page booklet with liner notes, interviews, and some really cool behind-the-scenes stuff like early art designs and full-page photos.
As soon as you open this box set, you understand that some time was put into honoring this album and the band themselves. This was the last album to feature original drummer Chris Witchhunter on drums and “The Final Witchhunt” album represented here in this set is presumed to be the last live recording with him. The unreleased tracks are awesome for any fan and serious collector of the band and this is the kind of great stuff that true hard-core fans are dying to hear. BMG has done an excellent job of bringing this box set to life with really great material that has undoubtedly been unearthed by Tom Angelripper for this grand release.
Tapping the Vein was a great turning point for Sodom at the time of its original release and showed the band heading in a slightly new, thrash style of music with death metal creeping into their overall sound. Their musicianship took things up several notches to match the speed and abrasiveness of the changes.
This is an excellent box set, handled with care and full of great info that fans will enjoy as a testament to this phase of the band’s career.
