Q & A with Turn Cold

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Brett: Our first EP Break Your Faith will be released in September and the first single The End of My Rope will be available everywhere 7/30

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?

Brett: About one year/ We started remotely during Covid last summer.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?

Brett: Partially boredom and partially hoping we’d be able to get on a stage again some time in our lives.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

Brett: Personally I’ve been playing in bands since I was 12. Definitely not classically trained, but we’re students of heavy metal.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Brett: Hopefully an authentic one.

XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)

Brett: reaching as many people as possible playing live.

XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?

Brett: The prime directive is that people will enjoy our music as much as I enjoy my favorite artists.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Brett: I really enjoy putting together demos alone at home on my laptop, but nothing beats a high-energy live show.

XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Brett: Isolation and depression are def recurring themes for sure.

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Brett: They support whatever I do, thankfully, My father is always proud as long as i’m paying my own bills haha.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Brett: Slayer, Metallica and Cro-Mags all the way.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Brett: Easy – The big 4 plus us.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Brett: Surviving 2020 and making a record!

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Brett: Bag boy.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Brett: Jackson, Marshall and Peavey, My current secret sauce is a delay/reverb pedal designed by Michael Klein Audio that I use for leads. It’s the best pedal i’ve ever owned.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Brett: When it comes to heavy music I like that there’s less emphasis on technical prowess and more interest in riffs and fun songwriting,

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Brett: That my favorite band is Choir Boy.

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Brett: Thrash metal.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Brett: Thanks for taking the time to read this and please check out the EP when it’s here!

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS Rock!
