Q & A With The Black Moods

Q & A With The Black Moods

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Kennedy- We are gearing up to be touring all year. Our website will have all the dates. http://www.theblackmoods.com
We are still recording songs for the album. We released our first single “Bella Donna” in June, and so far it has spent 12 weeks in the Billboard top 40. Oh, and we also have a wine out also called “Bella Donna” that is doing really well.

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Kennedy- We have been working professionally since 2010. Our first record came out in 2012.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Kennedy-Music was all I ever thought about since I was born. I just wanted to make a living playing music and take care of my family. That’s always been my drive.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Kennedy- we are definitely a live band. I love the energy and the whole bombastic element. I do like the balance of both though. It’s exciting to go on the road, and it’s just as exciting to know we are coming home to the studio.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Kennedy- there’s always something interesting that happens. Unfortunately it’s not usually glamorous with groupies and raging parties like most think. It’s not like it was in the 60’s and 70’s. Most of our stories usually consist of tire blowouts or being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of winter. Very Exciting stuff.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Kennedy- we’ve been asked to sign some pretty strange things….

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Kennedy- oh yea. Since I was born. My father is a musician so that was huge inspiration for me. I was always around it. I’m pretty sure my moms water broke at one of his shows:)

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Kennedy- that usually depends on how I’m feeling at that particular time. “Bella Donna” is a really fun one. Gets the asses shaking.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Kennedy- I would have to say my dads band, Midnight Express. They were THE coolest and what really got me into it. I definitely have them to thank.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Kennedy- Queens Of The Stone Age would be amazing. Opening for this years Rolling Stones tour would be nice too.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Kennedy-Being able to make a career out of playing music. We are very, very lucky and so grateful.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Kennedy- I went to the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe AZ to be an audio engineer. I would probably be workin in a recording studio…. or a bud tender at a dispensary🤓

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Kennedy- I have a custom strat, a 76 Epiphone and a Japanese Tele. I have a Fender twin twelve Deville that’s been modified. I also use Foppstar amps. They are amazing boutique amps built by our dear friend Drew Foppe out of Arizona.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Kennedy- I think it’s good and going in a good direction. It seems like people are looking for actual musicians that play and write their own songs as opposed to what’s been ruling the charts, which has pretty much been glorified Karaoke.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Kennedy-I auditioned for Kati Perry once…. didn’t get the gig.

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Kennedy- Strong, powerful, emotional rock’n’roll music.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Kennedy- Yea, keep calling in and requesting “Bella Donna” and Follow us on our Social Media, sign up on our email list at our website http://www.theblackmoods.com!

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with XS Rock!
