Myth of creation is a band of dedicated musicians playing their hearts out anytime they’re on stage. Through the pain, chaos and suffering came the album “Trials”. Focusing on tribulations of the past, the band’s main focus is pushing awareness to mental health, and ensuring YOU are never alone! Through vocal influences like Slipknot, instrumental influences such as Killswitch Engage, and emotional influences from personal losses comes a group creating the name Myth of Creation.
Myth puts on a show every time they perform, leaving it all on stage. If it helps you let off some steam, get out some screams, and feel like you can go back to work the next day feeling a little better, the band feels like they’ve accomplished what they’ve set out to do. Members of Myth of Creation believe in giving back what music gives to them every time.
XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
[Myth] Our debut album is being released on September 27th, on all streaming platforms through Pavement Entertainment!
XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?
[Justus] I think we’ve been doing this for a little over six years now, back in February of 2013.
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?
[Rob] I’ve always been active in music, I was concertmaster for high school orchestra. I finally met the guys who shared the similar musical taste and wanted to actually achieve something in the music industry. I’ve been best friends with them since!
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
[Justus] I’ve done everything from Jazz band to drumline to concert band to rocking out on stage with Myth.
[Rob] I’ve been a violinist for 11 years and branched out into other genres of music, picking up several other instruments along the way.
[Tim] I don’t know how, but I started with flamenco guitar as a kid, then picked up a bass, then a piano, and now I’m singing, still trying to figure out how I got here.
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
[Myth] We sort of think that’s subjective to each listener of our music. The image or idea can vary from person to person depending on what they’re going through at the time they’re listening to our tunes. We hope that each time you listen to it you can gain a different experience for yourself.
XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?
[Rob] Ideally I’d like to tour more and keep pushing the live experience to new fans out there. All in all we want to branch out to new stages that we haven’t been to yet.
[Tim] I want to hit stages with new fans, I want to be able to give that kid or person those 45-60 minutes to let some steam out, so they can go back to work the next
day feeling a little bit better knowing they got some stress off of their shoulders.
[Justus] I want to share with others, what I get to experience every day with these guys!
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
[Justus] Each of those have their own awesome traits I love. Nothing beats the moments leading up to walking out on stage, the nerves before the intro track starts, and the calm before the storm we experience every time before we set foot on stage. Looking out over the toms and seeing the look on everyone’s face is a feeling I couldn’t ever forget. There’s just something about getting together and turning thoughts into a song, making our ideas turn into something real that we get to share with everyone.
XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about?
[Tim] They all have their own story to some extent. The reason we chose Trials is because of just that, everything leading up to this album was a trial of some sort. We went through the wringer leading up to this. Through the music I’ve been able to really focus on what’s important, I’ve sobered up, and I even went to get the help I needed for my mental health. All of these songs carry the message of never giving up, while they are dark, they have a positive message as well. You aren’t ever alone in this world. If we can do it, so can you!
XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?
[Justus] I don’t think you can narrow it down to just one simple thing. Many things go into making a song, and hopefully, many different interpretations come out of it. One thing of great importance is being able to share with others the memories and emotions the three of us have together.
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
[Justus] Okay…..soooooo…. I was out on the road with a friends band, not playing just helping tech, and one of the members decided to engage in some riff-raff the night before. The following morning for breakfast he slammed some chocolate milk, unbeknown to everyone in the van, his stomach decided it didn’t want the milk anymore..Deciding to not tell anyone, he grabbed his backpack, which was full of his clothes, and deposited last night’s riff-raff into it…..without telling us …we didn’t know so the bag sat under my seat for two days in a hot van…and it smelled…I finally found where the smell was coming from and had to throw away his “favorite bag”..right in front of a Zombie Burger in Des Moines, Iowa…Join a band they said, it’ll be fun they said..
luckily I don’t have to worry about that with any of these guys!
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
[Tim] This one gal came up to me after a show and asked if I could do a photoshoot with her cats…I never heard back from her though, if you’re reading this, I’m still in!
XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?
[Justus] My parents have been the utmost supportive of my musical career. I decided not to go to college in pursuit of this dream. They have supported us in every step of the way, being at every show, sharing every post, and loving every minute of it. We honestly wouldn’t be here at all if it weren’t for everything they’ve done to support this dream.
XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?
[Myth] You have to be prepared to fail…a lot! Always always always, remember where you came from, no matter what you go through or where you go. Always remember home, and those who supported you when no one else did, and those that picked you picked up when you wanted to quit. Never stop chasing the dream!
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
[Tim] I’d have to pick Flawed.
[Rob] Save Yourself is mine.
[Justus] hands down Final Words.
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
[Tim] I think I’m going to go with Rammstein, I hope to one day have the amazing show that they put on! I mean hell have you ever seen them live? Or watched them perform on a DVD? It’s amazing! And to top it all off they never miss a beat with all the stuff they have going on for production.
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
[Myth] Hans Zimmer, Zeal and Ardor, Old school Casualties, and Iggy Pop. We don’t even have to play, we would just love to see that tour! Super strange but diverse makes no sense, but will still be awesome!
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
[Justus] Seeing all of the positive response to the single that dropped, and definitely being in Revolver Magazine!
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
[Myth] We don’t like to imagine a world like that, for us there is only music, if we can’t achieve it here, we will find a way to achieve it over there.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
[Justus] Pearl drums, Vater drumsticks, Meinl Cymbals, Evans drumheads, Axis pedals, and Shure in-ears.
[Rob] Gibson guitars, Marshall tube amp, Dunlop picks, Ernie Ball strings.
[Tim] Shure in-ears, Behringer X32 rack, Shure SM 58 Beta wireless.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
[Justus] To be honest, I think the market is oversaturated with a lot of music that sounds the same, from artist to artist and song to song. Hopefully, we can be a breath of fresh air to help shake things up.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
[Tim] I actually never planned on singing for the band, I’m also over a year sober too.
[Justus] I’m vegan and super passionate about photography.
[Rob] I broke my jaw once, and I love to learn interesting facts any chance I get.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
[Myth] You’re not alone, and you are all apart of this family. If you’re going through some shit, then we are right there going through it with you. If you ever feel like you don’t belong, you do now, you’re a part of this mythology!
XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!
