Q & A With Marty Hill From Roaring Truth

Q & A With Marty Hill From Roaring Truth

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Marty: We are promoting our current self-titled EP, “Roaring Truth”. It’s ROARING with melodic hooks and scorching riffs. If you like groovin’ metal- we’re a band for you!

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

Marty: Our current roster came together in May 2018

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

Marty: We are all big fans of music. We could all sit around and talk about it for hours. It’s a passion of the heart not only to listen to it, but play it as well.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

Marty: None really, I know enough music theory to be dangerous, LOL! Music comes naturally for me and is birthed in my heart. The studied musicians in the band are Dillon Moses- guitar, Jordan Greer- bass, and James Michael McLester- drums.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Marty: We are a heavy band, but we focus on “light” instead of “darkness”. Our lyrics and music are positively charged in the Spirit!

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

Marty: We’re probably like just about everyone else- we’ll ride this thing as far as it will go. We also want to help lead what some people are beginning to call, “The New Wave of Classic Heavy Metal”. There is a cry in the music community for a return to good, melodic, organic hard rock and metal, and we hope to deliver that!

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Marty: This may sound weird, but, recording is like giving birth to a child, while playing live is like showing your child off at a birthday party. Both are incredible!

XS ROCK: What are your songs lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Marty: Existential crisis, rebellion, the power of moments in life etc…In all of these lyrical situations, we speak of hope.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

Marty: Writing from my heart and being true to myself. Anything less would be inauthentic. Music has to be REAL!

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?

Marty: No, we try to stay away from the craziness. We are a very grounded band.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Marty: Giving an old girlfriend’s son an autographed CD was different

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

Marty: Absolutely! They know it’s what I love and that I have a burning passion for it.

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Marty: Find a group of mates who are all pulling from the same end of the rope! Don’t mess around too long with people who no-show you. If they do it once, they’ll do it twice.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Marty: Probably “Do As I Say”. It’s probably our heaviest tune and the ending has a fantastic break down. I love watching our other guitarist, Dillon Moses, thrash around during it!

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Marty: I have several bands that inspired me- 70’s Aerosmith, Early Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Randy Rhoads, Metallica etc…I knew from a very young age that hard rock/metal had an energy to it that lit me up inside. I knew I was made to play a guitar.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Marty: I think we would fit in nicely with Metallica, Bullet for my Valentine, and Volbeat. All of these bands are heavy and melodic.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Marty: The first time you hear your song on the radio is always special. It’s a confirmation of your work and it’s quality.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Marty: We all have full-time jobs. You know what they say about starving musicians, and we all like to eat, LOL!

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Marty: We pretty much plug in and play. We don’t have a tricked up sound live. I use some basic pedals- my favorites are flanger, chorus, and delay- and I play through a Mesa Boogie. Guitar wise, I’m a Gibson “V” guy, along with one B.C. Rich Mockingbird. Our other guitarist, Dillon Moses, plays with one pedal that he gets some crazy sounds with. Jordan Greer, our bassist, plays loud enough to rattle your teeth.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Marty: I know that there is an outcry for a return to the roots of metal. I think music has gotten way too mechanical and computerized. That’s why we “Plug in and Play!” Bands like the Foo Fighters are popular for this very reason- it’s no frills rock-n-roll, and people desire that.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Marty: I want to cage dive with Great White Sharks.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Marty: Check out our EP, and if you dig it, spread the word!

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XSROCK
