XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
DK- Hail XS Rock crew!! Thanx for the killer support, but damn… 23 questions?!! I hope you have enough memory in your computer to store my answers or cut down a big enough tree for all the paper you will need! If nobody has heard yet, we have a new album getting released November 30, 2018 through Metal Age Productions (Slovakia). As well as the back catalog on re issue through same label, all with vinyl and new sick cover art. Go to these links for all information on those and check them out https://
We are planning a European Perversion Tour May 10-26, 2019 with Sacrificial Slaughter (US), Devine Defilement (Iceland) and Bastard Asylum (US) with a couple confirmed fests… Nice To Eat You Death Fest (Cz) and Rock The Hell Fest (Swiss). Looking forward to crush at those for sure. Just confirmed Monterrey Death Fest (Monterrey, Mexico) July 19-20, 2019 and Chicago Domination Fest (Berwyn, Illinois) August 8-10, 2019!! A couple sick ass fests!
The only announcements needing to be said to the masses… “WE LIVE… YOU DIE!!”
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
DK- Most of your readers probably weren’t born yet. I started the idea July 1993 when I went to Milwaukee Metal Fest, which was THE sickest fest in the states at that time! Came home and bought a drum machine and a 4 track recorder since I was failing in finding like minded metal heads in my area… I would do it myself. Here we are 25 years later talking about this band still!! That is fucking awesome!! We were able to play live shows as a full group starting August 5, 1995 with Dying Fetus and Deaden! Show #2 was with Six Feet Under October 1995! Show #3 with CorpseVomit and Pederasty… we were playing in a landfill, day after Six Feet Under show! A great start for us! Nice and filthy!
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
DK- I am just fucking pent up with energy. Music was the best way for me to cope with it and heavier the music, better the soul! I love being in the crowd and raging with my favorite bands, but I always wanted to feel the stage, look at a crowd, feel the burning sensation of watching a fan move, dance, kick, punch, karate chop to the music we have created! I was always intrigued to be in a band as a young kid! You just gotta go do it! Now, the meaning behind Lividity, the band… stems straight from the fucked up cunt I was involved with 1987-1991!! She was manipulative, back stabbing, cock teasing piece of shit! So you have Lividity! I can put her name and that face with each song!
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
DK- I see many meanings in this one question. Teachings, influence, family history, self taught, prodigy… haha let’s see…
Teachings– had one class at a guitar store in Champaign, Illinois at the age of 17, I had been playing a couple years, but wanted some extra help. The teacher never let me hold the guitar once! I never took another class!
Influence– Three decades of the most awesome musical eras!! 70’s: Aerosmith, Uriah Heep, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Rush, Ted Nugent… 80’s: Venom, Motorhead, Slayer, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Infernal Majesty, Metallica, Megadeth, Metal Church… 90’s: Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Suffocation, Impetigo, Blood, Dying Fetus, Internal Bleeding, Entombed, Mortal Decay…
Family History– Only that my mom played piano and my uncle was a singer. I took piano lessons at the age of 5-6 years old… didn’t last long.
Self Taught– When I was ages 15 thru 17 years old, I had a friend who was older and he played kick ass 70’s rock and roll! I would take my guitar over to his house every day and watch him play. Put the albums on and before I knew it I was jamming right along side of him with songs from Blackfoot, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Ted Nugent, Montrose, Molly Hatchet…
Prodigy– hahaha… nope!
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
DK- Eye of the beholder man.. It is strong in foundation, it is strong in theme!! However anybody wants to perceive it, is their right. Have fun with the music or criticize the music, We aren’t ashamed of it. It feels good, it looks good and at the end of the day everyone is going to sleep fine! Fuck… everyone should worry if we didn’t have this band to keep us focused and grounded! If Lividity did not exist, I highly recommend that you lock your doors and windows!
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)
DK- World domination with this new album and some killer shows to go with it! Do what bands do… destroy your city! Hopefully in the next 3 years we are working on new material and have some more fun. We want to help with contributing to the death metal scene and spread our sick seed where we can.
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
DK- World domination with future albums and some killer shows to go with them! Do what bands do… destroy your city! Hopefully in the years to come everyone is still listening to our old material and having just as much fun. We want to help with contributing to the death metal scene and spread our sick seed where we can.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
DK- Playing for a crowd!! The true emotions, the sensations and high volumes of energy is what I love!! I enjoy writing new songs very much, but love doing them LIVE better!! Studio can be a stress or strain at times through the process. You listen to the songs so many times that you need a break… come in with fresh ears. I admit that this last studio session for “Perverseverance” was the smoothest. Everyone had a lot of great ideas and made it easy to piece it together. But I can’t wait to play all these songs LIVE!
XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
DK- Keep in mind from earlier, telling you about my ex-whore I want to dissect… Themes are basically just about hot bitches that flaunt their tits and twat to vulnerable men… wanting to wine and dine, jewelry, fancy cars, trips to remote locations… and amidst all this she’s banging Frank, the fucking pool boy!! What the fuck!! Kick her ass!!
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
DK- Which ones? The one’s that I have more fun than any human should possibly have or the one’s where I get hurt… haha.. I have both. The best one would be in Hamburg, Germany, before we were going to get back to the club and play that night, we stopped in some high class strip club for a drink, and all of a sudden start getting bills for the hookers drinks as they were wanting to mingle. Just put it this way, does the phrase “If you won’t make me cum, you will watch me cum!” mean anything to you.
We played Party.San Open Air (Ger) in 2008, we arrived Thursday on the first day of fest and we were like kids in a candy store! Biggest crowd we seen before (10,000 metal heads) and eventually through the night we get split up and I was party bouncing tent to tent and ended up back at the hotel at 8am Friday morning and we play that day at 5pm. Two German dudes helped me walk the mile back to hotel and dropped me off at the front steps. The caretaker of the place get’s me up and takes me door to door with all these bands still sleeping. He would ask them “Is this guy with you?” We eventually found my band on the third floor, and we started on the first floor. Haha… passed out a few hours, took a shower and… show time! Made it though. I had to walk that fucking mile back too… Actually that was probably what saved me.. haha
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
DK- A funny “dingy blonde” moment was when we had a show with Gorgasm in Pekin, Illinois 2006, that we had our merch set up and I was manning the table when a chic asked “If I was to show you my tit’s I can get that CD?” which was the “Show Us Your Tits-Live” CD… I said “well of course” so she says she has to ask her boyfriend that was standing at the bar first… haha He told her no. Then kept a close eye on her… haha that’s funny. That wasn’t a strange request as you asked, but make’s me laugh still. The occasional, “man when I get married I’m going to have your band play the reception”… “uhhh, OK “
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
DK- Mom and dad divorced when I was 8 years old. That’s when I started listening to 70’s hard rock. As I got older and the passion was increasing… mom “said that’s nice dear, but it will pass”. Dad (shaking head) says “that’s a stupid idea!”… But today I am an adult, they may not agree but never say a word about it. We are just family by blood, my extended family is the death metal community!
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
DK- What isn’t my favorite track to play live!! We obviously can’t attack them all, but the ones I love crushing are Rectal Wench, Oozing Vaginal Discharge, Lacerations Of An Unclean Twat, Used, Abused And Left For Dead, Raped For Rent, Chamber Of Bone, TLC (Tight ‘Lil Cunts), Cadaver Dogs, Pussy Lover… Damn, so many gems!
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
DK- When I was in 6th grade, Ozzy Osbourne had his solo albums out with Randy Rhoads and I wanted to play like that, but when Metallica came out with the album “Ride The Lightening” and I heard the first track Fight Fire With Fire I immediately went and bought a guitar and amp and start on my speed picking. As far as performances go, there were many concerts I seen from Alice Cooper to ZZ Top but when I seen Mettallica on the Master Of Puppets Tour (with Cliff Burton) and also Iron Maiden on their Powerslave Tour was the biggest rush as a teenager to see live!
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
DK- It would have to be a 5 – 6 band package, so I would say Napalm Death, Suffocation, Aborted, Profanation, Origin, and Lividity. If there is room to squeeze in 1 more band it would be Desecration. I would die a happy, happy man.
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
DK- As a musician? Meeting the world of metal heads and creating a great bond of brothers and sisters! True family! Could have never met so many cool people without Lividity. Life is meant to be fun… and this is fun. When it’s all over, these are the memories I will think of maybe more so than hitting the stage! Every tour and show is different with special activities and adventures… Off the stage hang outs are priceless! Not an accomplishment, not forced, just feelin’ good… An accomplishment I’m proud of is the longevity of this band and how we have greased the wheels and energized the beast on all cylinders!! The opportunities to see the world, which would have never happened without Lividity! We are appreciative and the fans are still hanging in there with us!! Salute to you!!!
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
DK- I would like to work in a morgue or groundskeeper at a cemetery… But I will remain a guitarist and screamer for Lividity and fall in and out of my job as a janitor at private college! Both compliment each other real well… Job pays bills and band can see some cool places. Don’t mistake the band as the “bill” payer haha…
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
DK- Whatever they throw at us!! Garrett has played on drum sets that make him look like Animal from the Muppet’s characters! I personally use, for rehearsal and local shows, BC Rich guitars (Bich, Warlock), Marshall DSL 2000 head, Laney 4 x 10 bottom cabinet, Fullbore Metal MXR pedal, D’Addario XL’s- 11 guage strings, Dunlop “grip”- 1.14 gauge picks. When we travel by air to other places we only bring guitars and effects. So I usually ask for Marshall or Peavey, which gives me best results in tone with the guitar and pedal I use
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
DK- I love it! There are a lot of bands, yes… but they are also fans of the music. In my 25+ years in the scene I have seen a lot of faces come and go and a lot who stayed true all these years… I cannot complain because a lot of people are helping keep this style alive! We have had the privilege of being a part of it for almost 30 years! So again… SALUTE TO YOU!!!
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
DK- As a musician? My 21 year old mind in a 49 year old body!! I can still give a 16 year old a run for their money in the pit.. haha I don’t know… It’s me… Nothing should shock anybody by now.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
DK- A total bitch beat down with a crowbar!! Brutal, sick, and unrelenting!!
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS Rock!
DK- Man, it was an awesome interview! We truly appreciate the killer sick support! Keep in touch, cheers!!
