Q & A With Jake Adkins From Wake Up Hate

Q & A With Jake Adkins From Wake Up Hate

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Jake: We just released our debut EP “Deep Sleep”! And we have awesome merch bundles available on our website.

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

Jake: We’ve been together since December 2018.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

Jake: Matt and I have been ghostwriting together for rock and metal bands for a long time. That’s kinda where the idea of creating a band came from. We got so good at writing together, we figured we might as well see what kind of music we could make for ourselves.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

Jake: Prior to this band our guitarist Matt was in a group called Exotype. Triston and I were also in a band together before Wake Up Hate, but the name isn’t worth mentioning since we never actually put out any music or did anything.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Jake: I’d say the main topics are your base emotions: love, hate, anger, depression, loneliness, etc. We tend to be dark in our lyrical content and try to have real meaning in each song. I don’t think that’s ever going to change.

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

Jake: We just want to make as much music as we can and play it for as many people that will listen.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Jake: Personally, I can’t say yet. I like this question because it’s really making me think. I used to love live performances more than anything but I haven’t played a live show since I started producing music and building my own home studio. I really don’t think I could possibly love anything more than creating new music now. But who knows? Maybe when Wake Up Hate starts playing shows that will change.

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Jake: I’d say the main topics are your base emotions: love, hate, anger, depression, loneliness, etc. We tend to be dark in our lyrical content and try to have real meaning in each song. I don’t think that’s ever going to change.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

Jake: Integrity. Writing music that you love, because you love it.

Q & A With Jake Adkins From Wake Up HateXS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Jake: I can’t really think of anything strange.

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

Jake: Yes, we have awesome support from both friends and family!

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Jake: Be original. Stop putting “FFO:” in your posts about your music. Stop trying to ride the wave of someone else’s success. You gotta find what makes you special that no one else has. That’s what will set you apart.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Jake: We love Not Worth Saving. It’s gonna be a fun one live.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Jake: For me, it was a high school battle of the bands. I was actually in middle school at the time, but my neighbor invited me to go with him. I remember watching a metal band called Adonai. I’ll never forget the feeling of watching them live. I knew without a doubt that music was what I wanted to do in life.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Bring Me The Horizon

Architects

Wake Up Hate
or
Papa Roach
Asking Alexandria
Wake Up Hate

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Jake: Releasing our EP!

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Jake: I’d probably go back to ghostwriting for bands and giving lessons. Anything involving music.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Jake: We haven’t played any live shows yet.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Jake: Most of it is just copycat bands whining about how nobody supports local music anymore.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Jake: Go buy and stream our debut EP “Deep Sleep”!
