XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
New CD “Only Dark Hearts Survive” out as of 9/13/19 on Dissonance. Touring in Spring 2020.
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Since 1993. Had a lay off for 10 years. Back stronger than ever.
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Music, booze and chicks…
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Inspired by KISS and Elton John’s ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ Steven knew he had to play guitar. His Dad had an electric guitar stashed away for him along with a Harmony tube amp! Off to races and with some tips from a school friend, Steve was rockin’ in the first band by the age of 12.
Steven joined his first notable local band Gotham and released a few demos and singles before leaving to form his first truly pro endeavor IMAGIKA that ended up releasing 7 albums worldwide and was a fixture on the Bay Area metal scene for over 10 years with multiple tours and performances. The band folded in 2009 and without missing a beat Steven had already begun a new band called KILL RITUAL They released their debut ‘The Serpentine Ritual’ in 2011. Kill Ritual has released 3 additional CDs worldwide, with supporting tours in North America and Europe, and is slated to release # 5 in 2020.
Sometimes evil never dies and in 2019 with the release of their comeback CD ‘Only Dark Hearts Survive’ IMAGIKA is back! So Steven’s ugly mug will be around for a while longer much to the public’s dismay!
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Dudes that rock. Energy, positive vibes in a dark world.
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)
Stay off of Medicare, not do meth or heroin, and open for Manowar.
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
Already well into it since this is CD #8. We’re like the pimple on your ass you can’t reach.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Both. 2 very different animals.
XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
The evil that men do…
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Many, but that would incriminate many and that would lead to “snitches get stitches” type stuff.
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Can you play something we can dance too?
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Nope. Then again I moved out early and found my own way.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Anything in tune!
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Kiss, Priest, Sabbath, Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Scorpions, Cheap Trick, etc. because they rule!
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Me plain simple because everyone else will be late…
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Serial killer or maybe law enforcement. Not that far removed.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Lots of stuff. More than needed, but who doesn’t like to haul 2 Marshall stacks up 3 flights of stairs. Cardio?
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Fractured, genre dependent, incestuous and vampiric. Kinda like the rest of the planet.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
That I’m an asshole…oh sorry, they all know that.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Metal. Real Metal. Not the crap that passes for metal today. Way closer to the roots.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Imagika is goin” get yeah…..oh shit Iron Maiden says that! HA!
XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XSRock!
