Q & A With Deepfall

Q & A With Deepfall

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

We just announced our fall and winter tours. We’ll be touring coast to coast with our Brothers HELLYEAH and Nonpoint for the celebration of the life of Vinnie Paul Tour, and right before that, we’re going to do a 3-4 week run with our dudes from THC (Texas Hippie Coalition)

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

The current line up has been a little over a year, but it’s hard to keep track of the time after a while, you know? The thought of this group dates back over 15 years ago. Everyone was doing their own thing until we all decided, “ okay look, let’s just do this and see what happens”. I guess that’s the short version.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

For me, growing up in a musical family kind of steered me in this direction. I was taught at a young age how to play the guitar. Shortly after, started writing my own lyrics and realized that writing songs would be my escape from all the bullshit life throws at me. It gave me the opportunity to recreate all those feelings on stage. While doing that I realized that the crowd was connecting with our songs, living their own meaning behind each one! That’s a great feeling!

XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Fake it till you make it LMAO. I’ve never had any “professional” training.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
For myself, each song conveys a different meaning, but ask any other member of the band and they will say something totally different… That’s why I don’t like to disclose the meaning behind my lyrics. When you do that, you take away the connection that our listeners have with the songs. I find myself asking our friends and fans this same question. What does this song mean to you? The answers I get are sometimes so far from mine, but they’re not wrong. That’s the beauty of this whole thing!

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?
I’m working on that.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Performing definitely! That’s where all the hard work in the studio and writing pays off! I’m a very impatient person haha, ask Matt Daugherty. As soon as he gets our tracks, I’m constantly on him!!! * Are you done yet? Are you done yet? Ha Ha *poor guy*

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about?

You Tell Me?

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?
Our Fans! I know you hear it from every band at every show… “WE CAN’T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU” but it’s so true! We absolutely love our fans! We have the greatest family in the world. Their constant support gives us the strength to move forward and the ability to not be afraid to look back and feel blessed to know where we came from! We will never forget it!

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
Not Yet… Stay Tuned

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

hahaha! so….. There was this poster! A four foot tall and six-foot-wide… poster… of the band that we had made for our album release. It was high in demand, apparently, to one of our faithful followers..”Teeeyummm…… how much for that Poster”?!?! haha love ya, Tonya!

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?
Keep pushing hard and don’t have a plan “B”. Back up plans fuel failure

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

all of them!

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

I was a lover of music growing up. Limiting it to just one is hard, but my first concert was Creed, Default and 12 Stone at the Van Andel Arena. Default stole the show that night. I was on the fence, center stage and connected with every member of the band! They were incredible!

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Breaking Benjamin, Pantera, Sound Garden, Killswitch Engage, DEEPFALL and have Metallica open the whole thing haha

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Coast to coast touring including some Canada shows

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Probably still be your friendly, neighborhood cable guy.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
LTD EC-1000 Deluxe guitar, Schecter Hellraiser guitar, Helix, Westone / Senhiser In-ear monitor system, Shure SM58.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
There are lots of great bands out there, especially back home in Michigan. Lots of great things happening from our home state.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Not sure anything about me is surprising.. haha I mean, I still watch cartoons, sleep with my socks on and I can’t stand wearing shirts that are loose around my neck….. that’s normal right?

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Our debut album “Broken” releases on October 18th available everywhere! New Music video coming soon for our single “Wasted”. Be on the lookout for that. The band will be heading out on tour October 26th with our friends THC (Texas Hippie Coalition – High in the saddle tour) then jumping on with our brothers HELLYEAH and Nonpoint, November 15th, for the celebration of the life of Vinnie Paul tour, until December 19th. Thank you for all the support and for letting us live our dream with all of you! We truly have the most awesome, bestest fans imaginable! ha ha love you all and we’ll see you soon!
