Q & A With Dan From Gramma Vedetta

Q & A With Dan From Gramma Vedetta

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Dan: We have a couple of good news stories, actually! Our new single “Address Unknown” will be out on the 15th of June and we’re celebrating this release with a massive live show at Water Rats in London.  Oother exciting news is that we are having a small tour in Italy this September. We can’t wait to play there.

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?

Dan: We started playing together at the end of 2016. Since then, we wrote and recorded an EP which we are currently releasing single by single, we had a couple of good shows in London and we are building a solid group of followers.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?

Dan: Well, we all started playing in the 90’s as teenagers and so the music has always been part of our lives. Since moving to the UK it was natural for each one of us to form a band again.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

Dan: We come from different backgrounds but at the end all of our songs rotate in a binary system having the first center on the hard and psychedelic rock of the 70, and the second center on the grunge and metal of the 90’s.  Plus some electronic and blues ‘asteroids’ that perpetuate our system space from time to time ha ha ha

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Dan: We think that by listening to your music you will picture three guys having fun together, putting into music  the highs and lows of their life.

XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)

Dan: Release of all our singles, keep writing songs to release a full length by the end of 2019 / early 2020.

XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?

Dan: Release albums. Would be nice writing something based on a movie.  On the live show perspective, we would like to being part of bigger festivals.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Dan: We are excited every time we play live and we definitely want to do it more and more.  But we reckon the thing we like the most is the songwriting and recording..you know, building the songs, tweaking the sound, nerding a little bit on it..all this things make us comfortable 🙂

XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Dan: The lyrics are written by me (Dan) and they talk about personal experiences and feelings. I  like to use metaphors when describing things. This approach give me some freedom and doesn’t disclose too much of me 🙂

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?

Dan: Yes the time when they told me “Don’t bring your amp, u will use the in house amp” and while it was ok during the soundcheck, it stopped working during the performance. Then they gave me another amp and it worked fine for half a song. I got very nervous, started kicking my pedalboard, all the pedals were flying around. Luckily the guitarist of another band realized something was not good so he lent me his amp. I was able to finish the set with a working amp but no pedals. LOL

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Dan: Well once one girl from the audience after our set asked us to play something of the german band In Extremo as part of the encore. LOL

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?

Dan: Yes they did. They bought our first instruments, they encouraged us to play even when we left home (and the country) for study / work, they always asked ‘Have you started playing in a band? When are you going to start a band?’ or similar.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Dan: Behind the Blinds and Taranto Train to Toronto Town

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Dan: Black Sabbath, Queen, Metallica, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Soundgarden.  Why? Well, they were great songwriter, great performers and entertainers and they were capable to explore new territories album after album.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Dan: Rush, Monster Magnet, Red Fang, Gramma Vedetta.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Dan: Entered the studio with an EP ready in less than a year and recording such amazing songs.  Another reward is the fact that every places we played, we got new people talking to us about how much they loved our show and songs.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Dan: Electronic Music Producers, Sound Engineer. Software Engineers or Astronomers.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Dan: Orange amps, gibson guitars and MusicMan bass.  Our pedalboards contains a variety of brands of pedals as the like of EHX, Dunlop, Orange, mooer, Ibanez.

Valadis plays Mapex Saturn, Tama Iron Cobra, Zildjian Cymbals

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Dan: It’s very prolific and alive. Especially London live music scene kicks ass. There’s a gig for any taste every day. Lots of band, lots of listeners. Good place to get inspired. And very nice people too.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Dan: I (Dan) wear Star Trek (TOS) Pajamas. Other than rockers we are kinda nerdy.

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?

Dan: A power trio mixing the sound of the 70’s and 90’s. Bluesy fuzzed guitars, solid drumbeats and roaring basslines. Catchy melodies vocals reminding people of Ozzy Osbourne and Dave Mustaine.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Dan: Our next single will be out on the 15th of June so we invite the readers to bookmark our bandcamp page.  Plus if you are in London or in the nearby come and see us at the Water Rats, the same day.  Please get in touch with us through our social profiles or by subscribing to our mailing list.
