Q & A With Brigitte From Aboleth

Q & A With Brigitte From Aboleth

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Brigitte: We have a big show coming up on November 15th at the Viper Room here in Los Angeles! You can get tickets for it on our website, abolethband.net. We’re also working on some new videos, planning the next tour, and we just started writing for our next release!

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

Brigitte: The current lineup formed in 2018, but I started the band in 2016 with a few past members.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

Brigitte: We’ve all been playing since we were kids, and we’re all obsessed with music to the point where we can’t imagine doing anything else. So here we are!

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Brigitte: Raw, groovy and gritty rock and roll that all the cool biker gangs drive around to

Q & A With Brigitte From AbolethXS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

Brigitte: Gold Record would be cool 😉

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Brigitte: Playing live is definitely the most fun part of this band. But for that you need music, hehe

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Brigitte: A lot of the songs on our recent record are inspired by different relationships, but not always romantic ones. We have the occasional narrative-driven song too, and they usually revolve around fun fantasy and occult themes.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

Brigitte: Probably the connection you get to people who are otherwise strangers. Both when you’re listening to music and when you’re playing it to people. That feeling you get when fans tell you “oh my god, it’s like you wrote that song about me” or “oh man, I’m going through such a hard time and you have no idea how much your music is helping me cope”– that is one of the most gratifying things in the world

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?

Brigitte: We had all the tropes happen to us: parking lot fight, veggie-tray-demanding divas, our van almost breaking down in the Rockies, getting caught in a pretty terrifying lightning storm, you name it

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Brigitte: One time in St. Louis a fan asked us to sign his car, which he said he named after our band. We’ve signed everything from boobs to vapes, but the Aboleth car was the coolest so far

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

Brigitte: Yes, we’re very lucky! My mom for example (who’s also an amazing musician) never misses a show and is always super supportive

Q & A With Brigitte From AbolethXS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Brigitte: Be a perfectionist 😉 but not to the point where you’re not moving forward

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Brigitte: Wytches and Fork in the Road. We also used to do a cover of Painkiller by Judas Priest, which was always super fun

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Brigitte: Influences for the band’s musical style are Soundgarden, Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin, and Bessie Smith. All the members listen to a huge range of music, though.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Brigitte: Direct support for Opeth. Or, if we dream really big, Robert Plant.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Brigitte: Same thing as what I described in the question about our favorite part about music. When people tell you that you’re saving their life with your music or that you made them cry (in a good way) or made them want to quit their boring job to go follow their dreams, that’s when you know you’ve done something really important

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Brigitte: There’s no plan B. But I’m also an illustrator and our in-house artist

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Drums: Soultone Cymbals, and the drum kit has a set up of kick 22, snare 14×7, toms 12 and 14.

Guitar: Gibson Les Paul and Mesa Boogie Amps

Bass: we need to ask Mark!

Q & A With Brigitte From AbolethXS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Brigitte: There doesn’t seem to be a specific rock scene, but it’s good to see rock bands resurfacing in the mainstream, even though they’re all over the place genre wise. Rock and metal are starting to get played more everywhere you go, younger people are interested in it, and its exciting. It’s coming back!

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Brigitte: Well one fun fact is that I used to study astrophysics in college. Most of us are huge nerds (we named our band after a DnD character)

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Brigitte: If you like our music please tell your local promoters so we can come play in your city! And please keep in touch on facebook and instagram, we’re on both as @abolethband 🙂

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!
