Q & A With Bridge To Breakdown

Q & A With Bridge To Breakdown

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

B2B: Well we just released our single “Rain” along with a lyric video, we are super excited to have that out and can’t wait to start playing more shows to support it!

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

B2B: 2011, we met in high school and have been working at it ever since

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

B2B: Taylor- To be honest I saw one of Gene Simmon’s shows and thought wow that looks cool! After learning I was awful at guitar my parents bought me a drum set and the rest is history. Growing up in a small town with “nothing to do” it seemed like we had two choices, do drugs or drink at 14. So we made our own choice, learn an instrument and form a band. I found some great lifelong friends in that small town and we’ve been playing together ever since.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

B2B Taylor- My background is primarily rock and metal. I grew up listening to bands like Avenged Sevenfold, All that remains, System of a Down thanks in part to Guitar Hero 2. Then over the years, I found my calling to bands like Slayer, Dream Theater, Trivium, Gojira, Iron Maiden. I’m not sure why but I wanted my music to do two things, either make my brain hurt because of complicated changes and intricate drum parts; or it had to be fast, angry, and intense so I didn’t need to feel that way. I’m constantly inspired by what I listen to and it just makes me want to try harder and learn more.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

B2B: Talyn- that feeling you get when you see the light turn yellow and you decide to go for it and you make it. That image

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

B2B: Talyn- I want our music to touch someone like my favorite musicians influence me.

Taylor- I want my drumming to take me to a place that I can host my own drum clinic. I take so much joy from performing that I want to share that energy with everyone

Q & A With Bridge To BreakdownXS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

B2B: Talyn- Definitely live audience, I’d rather be on tour than in the studio.

Taylor- The studio is fun because we get to geek out over gear and stuff, but playing live is so much better! Especially when the break down comes and you catch eyes with someone and there is a mutual understanding that it’s about to go down.

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

B2B: Talyn- the lyrics that we write typically Express the difficulties one goes through with their own consciousness, as well as dealing with the corrupt and unfair system that we’ve been born into.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

 B2B: Talyn- Practice.

Taylor- Taking the time to practice! Learning that one difficult drum fill, finish writing that one song, and getting comfortable enough to where you don’t think you’ll drop a stick during the show.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

B2B: Talyn- several outlandish sexual favors each in varying degrees of hilarity.

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

B2B: Taylor- Yes! We’re incredibly lucky to have great friends and the most supportive families imaginable.

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

B2B: Taylor- As the great Dave Grohl once mentioned, just play in your garage and suck.

Eventually, you’ll all be playing your first Guitar Hero 2 cover together, look down and suddenly you’ve learned Laid to rest by Lamb of God.

Talyn- Don’t be afraid to tell your friends what they can approve on, constructive criticism should always be welcomed.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

B2B: Taylor- Rain of course! It’s a pretty difficult song and it gets my energy pumping every time!

Talyn- Rusted, it’s really fun on guitar and this song really taught me how to play guitar and sing simultaneously.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

B2B: Taylor- All That Remains inspired me a lot when I was younger, The Fall of Ideals was a great album and it was a great introduction to the type of music I wanted to play.

Talyn- Freddy Mercury, he really inspired me to take the crowd on a journey live and that it’s so much more than just playing a song.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Taylor: Fever 333, Nothing More, Gojira, and the Deven Townsend project.

Talyn: Tool, Devin Townsend Project, Alter Bridge, Body Count.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
B2B: Talyn- developing my vocal range, I was a terrible singer when we started this

Taylor- getting good at writing songs and getting cleaner live with the band

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

B2B: Talyn- Something car related like a mechanic or a Rally Sports Racer.

Taylor- probably a chef, I quickly realized I was only good at two things. Cooking and playing the drums.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

B2B: Taylor- I use PDP drums, Soultone Cymbals, Scorpion Drumsticks, and MEE monitors

Talyn- I use Marshall amps, Boss and Harmonix pedals, Gibson Les Paul, and a Fender Telecaster

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

B2B: Talyn- it’s far more diverse than the radio portrays it if it’s not in that money box it doesn’t get supported.

Taylor- I wish more people went out to watch live music. It’s such an experience that just can’t be replicated any other way. Nothing beats standing in front of subs while watching Nothing More perform “This is the Time”

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

B2B: Talyn- that I’m really into pop artists like Lady Gaga and Sia and I love working on cars

Taylor- I can cook, but unfortunately no one else in the band really “Eats”. And yes even with this haircut I do listen to bands like Whitechapel and Behemoth

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

B2B: Taylor- Check out our new single Rain! It’s available anywhere you stream music.
