Q & A With Brandy And The Butcher

Q & A With Brandy And The Butcher

Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Like everyone else we can’t play in person shows. We did a couple of live streaming events. They are on our Youtube and Facebook pages.

How long has the band been together?

 Almost 2 years.

What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?

Kevin and Jay had been planning to put a new band together upon his retirement from the Army. As they started looking for bandmates they couldn’t find any among the local usual suspects  so The found Roger who had played in the army band with Kevin and Liz who was booking a local club and had been in a band many years prior. Kevin Roger and Jay are lifers that seem to be obsessed with playing music no matter what. Liz was a bit of a surprise and she began writing and performing after not playing for many years. She is now just as excited about playing music as the old timers!

What is your music background?

I played mostly metal when I started out but then moved through playing classic rock, goth, old school country then punk. I was always a bassist but switched to guitar to play in a band once a and now I’m back to playing guitar again. It was hard to find a guitarist that was into rawer rock and roll sorts of riffing.

What image do you think your music conveys?

it’s just rock n roll to shake your ass to. We want you to have a good time.

What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)

We want our 1st album to get enough notice to put us in a good position to reach a larger audience for us to be in a good position to release a second one a year or so later. We are hoping that Cvoid19 will be over soon so we can get back to touring!

What are your long-term career goals?

Long term we’d like to be able to tour some other countries and have a fan base large enough for us to keep putting out records!

Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience? We really enjoy writing. Liz especially loves studio time. Live shows are super fun and high energy. Yeah, it’s fair to say that we like them both.

What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Love, sex, obsession, angst and ass kickin’.

Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?

Yeah, the last tour got canceled halfway through because of a global pandemic! That’s pretty nuts.

What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Signing butts.

Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?

I have honestly never thought to ask.

What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Film Flam Man, Ballerina and Monkey the Cat.

Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

The Runaways, Iggy and the Stooges, the MC5, Blondie. Why? Because they’re bad to the bone, that’s why.

If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

The Coathangers and Boo Hag.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far? Writing and recording an entire album in the first year of being together as a band. We put a lot of hard work into it and are super proud of the result.

If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

i record music for a living so i’d just stick with that!

What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

I use a Gibson les Paul Special with a Supro Galaxy head and a 60s Fender Bassman 2×12 Cab with 1 Vintage 30 Celestion and 1 Warehouse Veteran 30 speaker. No pedals to speak of.

What do you think of the current music scene?

The current scene is like a stock car race that is under the caution flag after a wreck, Everyone is making pit stops and getting ready for the action to resume. This fall may be the most interesting time in music history if shows and concerts start up again!

For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Our band has 2 retired Army sergeants that have seen combat. Liz used to own a strip club in Florida.
