Q & A With Beneath the Hollow

Q & A With Beneath the Hollow

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

We just released a brand new single  “Spellbound” on 9/27/19.

For live appearances left this year, we have a 3-day residency set of shows supporting Dog Fashion Disco at The Looney Bin in Bradley, IL November 8,9,10

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

Jesse: Matt (drums) and I have been playing together since 2003. I was 13 he was 10 when we started. Tyler joined on bass in 2017 when we started getting this thing active again, and Jewell joined on vocals in June this year.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

Jesse: we just wanted to write some music we wanted to listen to.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

Jesse: Matt (drums) me I grew up around it. Our dad is a killer guitar player and was always playing in bands while we were kids. Originals and covers so we had a healthy dose of the classics like Montrose, Skynard, ZZ Top, Judas Priest you name it. We were fortunate enough to be educated on an entire generate of music we would have probably missed otherwise.

Then what really tipped the meter and made us want to play was hearing Pantera for the first time.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Jesse: that’s a tough one. I think that would vary song to song.

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

Jesse: we just want to bring our music to as many ears as possible. Get outplay shows, make new friends.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Jesse: I love both. I do all the recording/engineering/mixing/mastering of our music so for me it’s just as much fun to be in the studio as it is to be on stage.  And working with each member one on one during their tracking is also awesome.

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Jesse: that’s all Jewell’s department. But from what I know it seems to be personal experience; and just vague enough to be open to interpretation.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

Jesse: Honesty. Anything you hear from us is 110% real.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

Jesse: nothing too crazy.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Jesse: nothing too wild yet.

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

Jesse: absolutely! Our Dad was always helping us when we were young. Running sound, engineering our early recordings you name it. And even know my wife and kids are super supportive. My house is basically band headquarters rehearsals, recording sessions, band members staying over. Etc.

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Jesse: just get started. You can always find a million reasons to wait. I hear it all the time. “Oh, we’re not ready” kind of thing. Just get started. You’ll get better and more organized as you go.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Jesse: Spellbound is always a blast because it’s so intense dynamically. The other favorite is called “Whiskey Mistress” and will be out later this year.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Jesse: Pantera. The sound, the vibe everything just lit me on fire when I was young.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Alice In Chains

Knives Out!

Beneath the Hollow

Q & A With Beneath the HollowXS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Jesse: I don’t think there’s one particularly great accomplishment under our belts at this point. We do take pride in considerably getting our there to play and we end up making new friends not just fans of the music.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Jesse: We all have day jobs. Matt and I are both in transportation management. Tyler is an industrial electrician and Jewell is a Chef.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Jesse: I use assorted guitars from ESP, Gibson, and Dean.

Matt: DW Drums, Axis Pedals, Scorpion Percussion

Tyler: Spector 5 String Basses (NS 2000) Mark Bass 8×10

Jewell: Sennheiser mics

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Jesse: Depends on the area. The Chicago area seems soft from what it was 10-12 years ago.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Jesse: I can’t think of anything

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Jesse: certainly! For anyone who hasn’t heard us before please check out “Spellbound” available everywhere now!

To our current fans/friends THANK YOU. You guys rock.

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!

Jesse: thank you for having us!
