Q & A With Angel Rodriguez of Awaiting Sacrifice

Q & A With Angel Rodriguez of Awaiting Sacrifice
XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Angel:  We have been asked this quite a bit recently and I’m happy people are taking great interest in us. Right now we are not planning any live shows for the remainder of the year, the reason being is because we are still doing some behind the scenes work, we are gearing up with equipment as well as prepping for our very first music video for which we Extremely Excited to finally do. Plus we are also working on right now our next Album which will be Full Length, which we are also very excited about. Also, we are expanding our Merch Lineup with brand new awesome stuff. There is much more but it would take too much time to go into. We are very ambitious performers, we strive to give the absolute best experience for our audience and new fans but believe me when we are ready to play live it will be worth the wait!
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
Angel:  We have been together for 4 years going on 5.
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
Angel:   For me personally, it’s about self-expression. The ability to be who you really are on stage, and to have people see themselves along with you, it’s a special thing. It is my hope to be an influence to the next generation of metalheads
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Angel:   Believe or not I really don’t have a musical background per say as far as most others. Just grew listening to bands such as Children Of Bodom, Disturbed, Slipknot and much of the bands in that Era
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Angel:  I believe it conveys a mixture of Anarchy and Insanity that is often found in today world for all to see.
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)
Angel:   While we are very happy with the release of ‘Uprise’ we have so much more to show off. For me its to release this next Album which will be a Full Length, as well as to record and shoot at least three or four Music if not more, to Hopefully play a real Big Festival show and to top off Tour the Circut with maybe another band. I can definitely see that happening in the next 2 or 3 years.
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
Angel:  My Ultimate dream goal is to have at least 5 full length Albums, have at least several Nationwide Tours, and to definitely perform for Chicago and Wacken Open Air. That for me is the dream.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Angel:   While i do enjoy recording in a studio and hearing our perfect sound, Nothing Compares to playing in front of a Live Audience
XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Angel:   Are we allow to say? Jk. There are a lot of different themes, mostly depravity haha, but a few have some power undertones, for instance, the song Metal By Blood is about what its feel like to be a metalhead and how it’s more than just a genre, that is a true counterculture. The song To Kill A King has an undertone to never allow the masses of Authority brainwash you into believing lies.
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Angel:    I do have stories without a doubt. But i just cannot tell them to you now. They are rather, messed up, but definitely funny tho.
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Angel:   Believe it or not we have had a fan ask us for our blood; like a small sample. I thought it was a joke at first but that did not at all have a joking smile on there face, this has been a concern for a minute. This is a True Story
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Angel:   Sadly not many of our Parents have not been very supportive of our hard work. We try not to let it distract us, in the long run, Personally, I can say that my father has been a real cheerleader for what i am doing. Im very grateful for him.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Angel:   My favorite ones to play live are Mindrot, Bring The Rage and another one called Vindictive.
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Angel:   Ya know im glad people ask me that because most people who have known me will assume that band might Killswitch Engage which is my all-time favorite or maybe even Children Of Bodom which was the band that got me into Metal, but the truth is it was actually Weird Al Yankovic, haha strange i know. I saw him live at a very young age and saw the Guitarist Jim west play like a manic, at that moment i said to myself “I want to know what that feels like”
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Angel:   Children Of Bodom, Slipknot, Demon Hunter and Dethklok.
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Angel:  I consider the “Uprise” Release to be our best accomplishment by far. Reason being is because was something that at the time i truly beliveved it was never gonna happen. There was so much bad blood going around, creative differences, at that time everything was just ugly on all fronts. About 9 or 10 months after the split the core members decided to put old differences and BS aside to finish what we initially started, to take a step back and regain what we lost. “Uprise” is a testament of the soul of this group whether people enjoy the tunes or not it is exactly who we are as one unit.
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Angel:  To tell you the truth I’m not sure. Although i have always wanted to be an Auto Mechanic. I love being around i could do it all day.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Angel:   For me Personally, i use a Peavey 6505+ Tube amp, Fullbore Metal Distortion Pedal with a Mesa Cabinet. The Guitar i use is a Schecter Hellraiser C-1, My baby haha.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Angel:  I’m actually proud of the scene. I say that because it has its ups and downs but somehow persevere through a bunch of bad things. Most notably the closing down of several well-known venues throughout the years. It was on life support for a while and now i see new bands coming back, new promoters and bigger venues opening doors to the local bands than before.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Angel:  I think people are honestly surprised at how nice i am in real life. I guess to most people i come off as very intimidating but that only looks.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Angel:  We are a combination of Death Metal vocals with varying styles of Nu-Metal and Thrash Metal. Weird blend i know but admit it, you are intrigued.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Angel: The only thing i wish to say is how grateful and special we all feel to from our fans how have stood by us throughout the good times and the rough ones as well. They say that metal fans are the most loyal in the world and they continue to prove that fact, even to the small bands like us. This whole resurrection experience these past few months have proven again that  Metal is more than a genre, its a culture way of life and very proud to be part of it. That being said i conclude with this. Thank You to all of you.
