Q & A With Align The Tide

Q & A With Align The Tide

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Danny: We had a line-up change late 2018 and with the addition of Nikki it’s gonna help us proceed and advance in many new things, material and touring wise. As for shows, we’re currently in talks for some cool tours around Europe and maybe also the states again.

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?
Danny: Align the Tide has been around since late 2015, me being the founder was a bit of a pain in the ass to find the perfect band members for you to be safe to call family.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?
Danny: I’ve always wanted to be in a band just to follow my dad’s footsteps, so yeah considering Kyle & I have been working together in music for the past 10 years, I was like hey why not call Kyle to join in on my project which nowadays is Align the Tide.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

All the band: We all listen to different types of Metal and that is how we come up with all the ideas for our songs, we all go to our studio with different influences we sit down and jam.. that’s basically what we do.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Chippy: Well most of our songs are about getting fucked up so yeah we just want our fans to party and enjoy life the way you’re meant to.

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?
Nikki: All we’re planning on doing is touring, touring, touring and then record our second full length album. That’s the reason why I joined this band cause we all have the same ambition.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
All the band: They’re two completely different things but we love doing both of them, new songs are always awesome but playing for a live audience is insane. We can’t describe a better feeling when you have hundreds or thousands of people in front of you cheering for you and enjoying themselves!

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Kyle: Not all have the same topics, but some are references to TV series and movies, whilst some songs talk about sensitive topics like drug abuse, themes related to a low self worth and loss, and other themes.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?
Kyle: Most important thing to us is to always remain humble towards each other and especially to our fans.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road?
All the band: We do have a few from our 2018 USA spring tour with Mushroomhead, but some are better to be left unsaid haha. Fans in the states sure know how to fucking party, after a show we had played in a state we always went having a few drinks with fans in the club for us to get to know people and actually be friendly with everyone. They always use to come up to us after a show and give us free weed or just cash to either buy food or fill up our car with fuel, that was awesome!

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Chippy: We never really got a strange request from fans so far but can’t wait to do so!

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?
All the band: Our Families are all super supportive towards but when it comes to friends you do get supportive ones but you also get negative ones where they tell you, forget about getting famous with rock music and that it’s nearly impossible and whatever but hey we don’t really give a fuck what people say, we’re just doing what we love and we’re nowhere close to stopping.

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?
Danny: Prepare yourself for a long journey of  swearing, fighting, broke moments and tears as being in a band is not so fucking simple as you may think, it takes a lot of dedication and hard work. We’ve been doing that for the past 3 years and we’re still nowhere close to where we wanna be.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
All the band: They’re all fun to play but we’ll go with Blacklist, Red Label and Dark Passenger.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
All the band: we have several bands that made us get on that stage and play our own shit such as Slipknot, Korn, Gun n Roses and the list goes on.. It’s just the energy they all give out on that stage in front of thousands of people you just get amazed and influenced immediately.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
All the band: This should be fun haha. Slipknot, Korn, Static-X, Pantera, Mudvayne and Lamb of God. That would be one hell of a tour.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
All the band:  2018 USA spring tour with Mushroomhead hands down.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
All the band: Well none of us really continued school or anything like that we always gave our time towards the band, to create new music and always organize a gig locally for us to have fun and play in front of people so most probably some mediocre  9 to 5 job.

Q & A With Align The TideXS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Danny: Tama superstar Hyperdrive kit with Sabian cymbals and a Tama speedcobra double pedal.
Kyle: Laney ironheart connected to a BOSS GT-100 and a 7 string Ibanez.
Nikki: Mesa Boogie Mark v and a 7 string Ibanez.
Chiipy: Gallen Krueger and a 5 String Ibanez.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
All the band: Well the music scene outside of Malta is surely much better than here locally. We suffer to get new faces at shows since Malta’s population is just of around 450,000 people so yeah people that listen to Metal are limited.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
All the band: We may look like assholes or whatever but we’re completely the opposite! We just like to party the rock n roll way.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
All the band: Always open your minds to new bands who are in the underground scene, you’d be amazed of what talent there is. Those famous bands we all know of once where in our positions.

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!
All the Band: It was our pleasure,. Thank you for all this and we hope you’ll like our debut full length album!
