XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
A.C. Hall: New LP titled 1000 Miles of Mud, slated to be released December 14, 2018 on Corpseflower Records.
XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?
A.C. Hall: Six years, but I officially joined in February of 2013.
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
A.C. Hall: I was always a drummer but after having a conversation with John [Roman] about potentially putting together a Captain Beefheart tribute band to play a Halloween show, for which I wanted to sing, he asked if I would want to try doing vocals in his new group instead, so I did. I had no real experience, but I figured it out, wrote some lyrics, and after a few trial practices, they asked me to join the band.
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
A.C. Hall: I played drums in a metal band called Cariosis in high school, and then again in a band called Epstein Barr in 2010.
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
A.C. Hall: Warm green slime slowly dripping off of a rusted out jalopy.
XS ROCK: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)
A.C. Hall: Tour more, keep writing new music, go platinum.
XS ROCK: What are your long-term career goals?
A.C. Hall: Go double platinum.
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
A.C. Hall: I find that both are equally fulfilling.
XS ROCK: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
A.C. Hall: General feelings of unease, the BDSM community, abject solitude.
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
A.C. Hall: Nah. We’re good boys who go to sleep at a reasonable hour.
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
A.C. Hall: To play an encore.
XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
A.C. Hall: Yes, actually. My dad loves our covers.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
A.C. Hall: Everything off of the new album is a blast. I’d say Soft Ceiling and Rated Eye are my favorites.
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
A.C. Hall: Prince, Beefheart, David Yow. Sex, sex, sex.
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
A.C. Hall: Consistently writing, recording, and touring for six years straight.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
A.C. Hall: Microphone and a cowbell.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
A.C. Hall: I think that there are a ton of great bands out there right now and anyone who says that there aren’t need to look harder.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
A.C. Hall: I’m not a monster with a gravelly voice in real life.
XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
A.C. Hall: Greasy, heavy rock and roll with sharp edges.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
A.C. Hall: Please check out everything on the Corpseflower Records roster!
