New book Always Moving: The Strange Multiverse of Voïvod by author Jeff Wagner to be released

After years in the making, author Jeff Wagner has announced the imminent publication of Always Moving: The Strange Multiverse of Voïvod on November 17, 2025.

Always Moving celebrates the 40+ year career arc of Canada’s cosmic metal mutants. Between 2020 and 2024, Wagner interviewed band members, managers, producers, record label reps, family members, peer musicians, and other musicians heavily influenced by Voïvod’s ever-evolving music to capture their entire fascinating story. Presented as a mammoth oral history coupled with the author’s narrative, Always Moving shines an arc light on the band’s every creative turn, the impetus behind their constantly mutating sound, and the trials of keeping it together amidst crippling tragedy and unlikely triumph.

Always Moving weighs in at a whopping 3 pounds and 540 pages (including a 12-page color spread) and a girth of 7.75″ x 10″. The book is now available for PRE-ORDER only through Wagner’s own Radical Research imprint: https://www.radicalresearch.org/voivod/

Jeff Wagner has been a fan of Voïvod since 1985. He has interviewed the band numerous times since 1993, was hired to write album release bios for the self-titled (2003) and Target Earth (2013) albums, was product manager for The Wake (2018) for Century Media, and wrote liner notes for their 40th anniversary release, Morgoth Tales (2023).

Wagner says, “it’s a total honor to have written this book. The band were entirely forthcoming and super-helpful with their time, as was their manager, James MacLean. I spoke to every living member – except one – for this book. I also spoke with folks like Monte Conner, Brian Slagel, Glen Robinson, Wayne Archibald, Harris Johns, Ian Christe, and members of Opeth, Cynic, Anekdoten, Virus, Deceased, Sindrome, Agalloch, Therion, Enslaved, The Accused and Gorguts – and a bunch of other folks! – to help get the most rounded, complete picture of the band’s influence and impact from people who have been close to them in a variety of capacities.”

Wagner continues, “And I held nothing back. There’s almost no stone left unturned, hence the size of the book. Even the two Appendixes are total nerd-fests that I think fans will find amusing and interesting. I know I’m psyched with the book, as a fan, so I think a lot of other diehard Voïvodians will be too.”
