Interview With Dereak Messer From The Band Messer

Interview With Dereak Messer From The Band Messer

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Dereak Messer: Hey this is Dereak. Thank you for the questions. Well we just released a new single called Hope in this World and released a video for it.

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?

Dereak Messer: Just over a decade now.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?

Dereak Messer: I always felt a strong connection to music and always loved to sing. But I remember my dad playing his acoustic and singing when I was really young and that stuck with me.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Dereak Messer: I love the writing process and really enjoy the recording and hearing the song come alive but the exchange of energy with the fans at a live show is a drug like no other.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

Dereak Messer: There have been a few but we did this 5 or 6 city run of these red carpet events for this charity and Vince Neil was part of it. So we followed their tour to those specific cities and after Motley Crue played their show, Vince would come to this event and MESSER would perform and then Vince would get up and sing a song or two and at our 2nd show in Nashville, I believe, Vince sent his handler over and said Vince wanted to meet us. So we got to hang out with him and got to sing some Zeppelin on stage with him the next night.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Dereak Messer: I remember a show years ago where a fan asked us to play a specific song and then proceeded to take out his glass eye and held it out as an offer for his song request.

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?

Dereak Messer: I lost my dad when I was pretty young but I know he would have been and my mom has always been supportive.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Dereak Messer: Still Better Off, Everything Beautiful and our newest single Hope in this World.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why? I was inspired by a lot of bands.

Dereak Messer: I was always fascinated with melodies and harmonies so I listened to all sorts of music. I had older siblings so I got exposed to everything from Peter Frampton to KISS to The Beach Boys. Then later in life I fell in love with The Doors and so many great bands from the 90’s grunge scene.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Dereak Messer: Our friends Pop Evil for sure and Shinedown. We just booked a show for August with, Alice In Chains, Breaking Benjamin and Bush. I would love that to be a whole tour.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Dereak Messer: Our newest single “Hope in this World” just broke into the Top 40 Active radio charts so this is our 4th Top 40 song as an independent band. I’m very proud of us and our team.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Dereak Messer: Over the lockdown I got the chance to make a knife with a friend from junior high school after we had been watching the tv show Forged in Fire and then I posted it on our social media and the next thing you know we are getting a lot of orders for custom knives. So we formed Two Headed Dog Knife Works. So I would be full on making custom knives.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Dereak Messer: We take out live shows very serious and always want to insure the best listener experience as possible. We use a variety of things but we are super Nerdy and techy so we have a lot going on under the hood to make that happen. Just know your gonna get an audio and visual show you won’t soon forget!

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Dereak Messer: It’s a weakened version of its old self to say the least. So many venues closed down and it’s been a lot tougher for bands to build tours. We are hoping things will get back to some kind of normalcy but it won’t ever be the way it was. But we are always hopeful

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Dereak Messer: Well for a vocalist in a rock band I’ve had an amazing unbelievable ride, but I’ve been sober for 13 years and I’m ok with it.

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?

Dereak Messer: We are a high energy band with big catchy chorus’ that will leave you with the feels after the show.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Dereak Messer: Please download our MESSER app. You can find it in your App Store on google or apple. That’s where you can get the most exclusive content.
