(hed) p. e. are set to release their new album “Forever!” on July 22nd. I had the privilege of getting to listen to it before the release date and let me tell you, this is one, if not the best album of (hed) p.e.‘s career. For many years, I was, for lack of a better description, a metal purist. Meaning that I prefer the traditional sound of metal music without any crossovers or genre mixing. One of the bands that changed my thinking about what metal is and can be was (hed) p.e. Like an incredible, hallucinogenic drug, the band came on the scene, expanding everyone’s minds and perceptions with their genre blending sound. Forever! kicks off with a real in your face track called “Live”. One of my favorites tracks alongside Pay Me, Closer, Hurt and JahKnow. The first seven songs are the rockers and then the last half of the album heads in a decidedly mellow, reggae sound to end everything on a calm, peaceful note. The band knows how to mix in rock, metal, latin flavors, reggae, pop and anything else that you can think of and yet make it sound incredible together. There is also some political commentary sprinkled throughout the lyrics and in samples, which lets you know what these guys are fighting for. It’s always refreshing to see a band blend so many unique styles together, but also wear their heart on their sleeve and stand up for what they believe in. This is a great album from beginning to end. If you’re already a fan of (hed) p.e. you’re going to love this album. If you’ve never heard them before, this a great place to start. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride that is “Forever!”.
