Goatwhore: Vengeful Ascension

I first became aware of Goatwhore‘s brand of New Orleans style metal with the album “Carving Out The Eyes Of God”. I quickly became a convert to their style of brutal head banging metal and have been a fan ever since. With their new album “Vengeful Ascension”, Goatwhore is at the top of their game. Starting from the opening track “Forsaken”, the band rip into a raw, metal, buzz saw thrash that will leave you breathless. Darkness has always been a main theme in Goatwhore‘s music and this album is absolutely no exception. Sounding like the apocalypse is nigh, “Vengeful Ascension” is a lyrical Dante’s journey through hell on earth. For anyone that hasn’t heard Goatwhore, think of an overtly demonic, Pantera sent to unleash the prophetic beast of Revelations. Whether or not you agree with their lyrical content is entirely up to the listener. However, this is one great slab of molten metal that the band has delivered. From beginning to end it’s like living through a tornado. It’s one hell of a ride and actually a lot of fun.  Louis B. Falgoust II is an incredible singer with a black metal edge that sits nicely with their southern style Death Metal sound. Standout tracks for me are Forsaken, Vengeful Ascension, Mankind Will Have No Mercy and Decayed Omen Reborn. These guys are a great crossover band that traditional metal fans, as well as black metal fans should both equally enjoy. For pure, in your face, metal brutality, Goatwhore‘s Vengeful Ascension simply can’t be beaten.
