Bernie Tormé Dead at 66

Former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Bernie Torme’ has died from complications of “virulent double pneumonia”.  Torme’ died on St. Patrick’s Day, one day before his 67th birthday.  Torme’ played with Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan in Gillan and fronted his own band called Torme’ which featured L.A. Guns and Girl vocalist Phillip Lewis.

Lewis stated the following concerning Torme’s death:

After my band Girl split up I was music poison. Nobody wanted to have anything to do with me except Bernie who invited me to join him and his band on a musical adventure. A time I will never forget and always cherish. We’ve lost a treasure. Rest easy old friend

Torme’s time with Osbourne was brief.  He was hired by Ozzy’s label Jet Records as Randy Rhoads’ replacement after his untimely death. However, Ozzy had decided to hire Robert Sarzo (Hurricane) to replace Rhoads.  Torme’ flew to L.A. and after just a few shows, it was mutually decided that his bluesy style was not a good fit for Ozzy, more metal sound. Torme’ continued as a solo artist as well as a session player for many bands.
