Polish your boots, put blackfacing on, hang out your sooks, sacrifice a goat, or do whatever else is traditionally done where you live around this time of the year. Here is a deadly present for you:
TEMPLE OF DREAD unleash the digital 2-track single “Verminous Sodomy” as a tribute to German thrash metal masters SODOM today, on December 11, 2025.
“Verminous Sodomy” contains the new track ‘Verminous Sodomy’ and the Sodom cover ‘Persecution Mania’ with a guitar solo from Frank Blackfire himself!
TEMPLE OF DREAD comment: “Ho ho ho, we have a nice little present for you that is fitting this season’s spirit by paying tribute to one of our favourite bands, Sodom!”, guitarist Markus Bünnemeyer enthuses. “We are beyond stoked that Frank Blackfire himself contributed a solo to our version of ‘Persecution Mania’. The title track, ‘Verminous Sodomy’, is rather unusual and slow-paced by our standards. It continues the sinister story of what had befallen King Minos of Crete: After his fanatical wife Pasiphae had cursed Minos, snakes, scorpions, and centipedes poured out of his body whenever he approached another woman! How fitting for a new Temple of Dread lyric! The single will be released digitally as a thank you to everyone who has accompanied and supported us along the way!”

Death metal can hardly get more dedicated and passionate about the old school Floridian sound than TEMPLE OF DREAD on their fifth album “God of the Godless”. This might have something to do with the band being located on the German North Sea island of Spiekeroog and the famously laconic and stubborn character of the East Frisian people.
Luckily, TEMPLE OF DREAD are not mired in a swamp of stale nostalgia. Although “God of the Godless” comes with the brutal power of harsh winter storms and the gritty texture of the often fierce North Sea weather, the East Frisians have also refined the cinematic aspects of their sound that they had firmly established on the predecessor “Beyond Acheron” (2023).
Building on their brutal death metal base, TEMPLE OF DREAD also work with dark and heavy parts as well as a surprising dash of melancholia – and even some knife-tips of black metal spice. There is even a return of a guest-contribution by former MORGOTH, INSIDIOUS DISEASE, and ASINHELL vocalist Marc Grewe.
