Lost Signal is the electronic music project of New York state-based Charles Rehill, who is a collector of hardware synthesisers inspired by the melodic vibrancy of composers ranging from Vangelis to Ólafur Arnalds. Production and sound design work begun in the late ’90s when he signed his first record deal as a teenager subsequently led to a fruitful career working for synth manufacturers. The compulsion to create and elevate life’s colourful moments is why Lost Signal exists.
A brand new single entiled ‘Entropy’, is out today (29th August) via Metropolis Records. A cinematic, slow-burning elegy that explores the collapse of connection through the language of astrophysics, it draws on themes of cosmic decay and emotional disintegration, pairing stark, atmospheric soundscapes with lyrics that imagine a universe unravelling in sync with a fading relationship. The song’s haunting refrain: “Even though there’s nothing after / Even though we die alone” underscores its meditation on memory, loss and the human instinct to hold on even as everything drifts into darkness. A poignant blend of science and sorrow, ‘Entropy’ is a quiet reckoning with the end of a world, a love, as well as the light that once connected them.
‘Entropy’ features a special Dolby Atmos version (on digital platforms that support it) and is the first single to be issued from a forthcoming album, ‘Light Of Other Days’, which is set for release on 7th November. Framed by the instrumental overture ‘Departure’ and its closing counterpart ‘Return’, it journeys through themes of memory, mortality and fragile hope. Songs such as ‘Dream Within A Dream’, ‘Not The End Of Me’ and ‘Before Today’ wrestle with despair, resilience and the illusions we cling to, with ‘Entropy’ expanding the frame to cosmic finality. With its cinematic lyricism and shadowed textures, ‘Light Of Other Days’ emerges as a haunting meditation on what we remember, what we invent and what inevitably fades.
