We have seen a wave Scandinavian melodic rock bands emerge in recent years (One Desire, H.E.A.T, and Brother Firetribe to name a few), but a band that helped to kick it all off along with Europe, are fellow Swedish rockers Treat.
Their latest release, The Road More Or Less Traveled, is a live recording of their most favoured songs, but maybe the word ‘live’ is where the problem lies (we’ll come to that later).
With 14 of their best tracks ranging from older classics like Get You On The Run and Ready For The Taking, to newer ballad Do Your Own Stunts, Treat have in essence created a greatest hits album.
The tone of Robert Ernlund’s vocals and the melodic guitar riffs really give Treat a signature sound that they totally own. A stand out track from the album for me would have to be the catchy but haunting Ghost Of Graceland, which does a great job kicking off the album.
The record features fantastic vocals and musical talent throughout, but the one downside is that to my ears it sounds as though the tracks have been overly touched up and have lost some of the true live sound, which is a shame.
Despite the over processed feel, if you are new to Treat then I think this would be a great album to listen to, as it features all the classic tracks – you will soon be pulled in!
I personally love Treat as a band, and each of the tracks on this album are great, but if you are hoping to hear raw, stripped back live versions of the songs then you may be disappointed. However, if it’s a ‘Best Of’ record you’re looking for then I would definitely suggest having a listen.
