Review:
If you’re looking for a bluesy hard rock treat then Snake Charmer will be right up your alley. Snake Charmer was originally formed by former Whitesnake members Mick Moody and Neil Murray. And, yes, it does have a pre-Whitesnake (1987) sound to it, but also a big infusion of blues and retro 80’s style hard rock. So, this will also appeal to fans of Foreigner, Bad Company, Night Ranger and Rainbow. It’s filled with catchy songs throughout and the musicianship is top notch. Of course, I would expect that with the lineup. Really, Snake Charmer is a sort of a super group with members from Whitesnake, Magnum, Thunder, Ozzy Osbourne and Heartland. One song that really stands out for me is “Are You Ready To Fly” . It really has that early Whitesnake kind of vibe to it. But, really it’s a solid album throughout. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not re-inventing the wheel here, but rather reminding you where the wheel came from to start with. And that’s perfectly fine. There comes a point in time where the retro sound begins to sound fresh and new in contrast to the current trends. And that’s exactly what you get with Second Skin. A great reminder of what rock n’ roll can be when you do what you love and let the flavor of the month be damned.
