Q & A With Royalty Kult

Q & A With Royalty Kult

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

JM: We are currently in the process of releasing singles leading up to our Debut album “Enjoying The End”. We just released Stay This Way and Bleeding Possibilities and the reception has been great

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

JM: Since 2016, but we were quietly working hard writing 3 albums worth of material and we just launched to the world this year

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

JM: This truly all I have ever known and all I ever wanted to do. My Father is a Heavy Metal singer. It is just who I am

David: My entire life, as far back as I can remember, I’ve been creating in one form or another. And music took hold of me and never let go. Starting and being in a band is just a part of that

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

JM: Vocalist, I love Elvis Presley, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Korn, Alice In Chains, Nothingface, Slipknot, Spineshank, George Strait, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley

David: I have been involved in bands since I was young. From punk and metal bands to hard rock and alternative projects, I’ve always been writing and performing

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

JM: Depth, Melody, Dark, Emotion

David: I think my music has always been a collection of my experiences. Expressions of emotions ranging from hope to darkness and rage

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

JM: I truly want to do this at the highest level and provide for my family doing so. I want to give back to the masses what my favorite artist have given to me. When a song hits you in the gut. I want to give that to as many people as possible

David: To be able to create and share our music with the world

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

JM: I love both, but hearing the final masters back is truly amazing for me

David: I love them both equally. But if I have to choose one then I’d say writing and recording. I’m constantly writing. I can’t contain it. And bringing a song to life in a sharable format is extremely gratifying

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

JM: Whatever I’m going through at the time. We cover love, loss, pain, hope. Human emotions

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

JM: Getting to do this everyday for millions of people throughout the world

David: Expression and connection

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in

JM: Back in 2011 with our old band Interim Divine, we were on the road with Spineshank and while on the way from one show to another in the freezing North West of the United States our van and trailer hit a patch of ice and we lost control spinning all over the place. Thankfully no one was hurt

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

JM: Nothing too strange, yet at least haha

David: I’ve always thought signing body parts was strange

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

JM: Some yes and some no. It hasn’t been easy. A lot of people close to me has been affected by my struggle

David: Absolutely

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

JM: If you truly want it more than anything then never quit. Take the risk and go after what you truly want. No one will fight for you except you

David: Listen to those who’ve come before you

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

JM: All of them

David: I love them all equally

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

JM: Elvis Presley and Korn. Their drive and music changed the world

David: Many punk acts of the 80’s and 90’s, along with alternative rock acts like The Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, The Deftones, Muse, and A Perfect Circle

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

JM: Royalty Kult, Korn, Slipknot, Spineshank, Sinch

David: Definitely The Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies, A Perfect Circle and Royalty Kult would make my inner fan die smiling

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

JM: The launch of Royalty Kult has been amazing and also playing with Jonathan Davis and touring with Spineshank

David: Musically, I’d say Royalty Kult. It’s the best work Josh and I have ever done

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

JM: Performing martial arts in films and teaching martial arts

David: I’ve done it all. I adapt as life changes

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

JM: I love Shure Microphones personally

David: Depends on the circumstances really

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

JM: I would like to help bring Rock music back to the forefront, but I love Country music

David: It’s obviously changing with the state of the world. We are about to start a whole new chapter of live music and the way it’s approached. We will have to wait and see what happens really

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

JM: That I’ve been a lifelong martial artist

David: I’m a huge comic book fan. I have a large collection of comic books and comic book art. It’s an obsession haha

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

JM: Stay safe and strong during these crazy times and I can’t wait to perform for you all for many years to come

David: Thank you so much for connecting with us and supporting us! We will be releasing a new single on the 6th day of each coming month, followed by the entirety of “Enjoying The End” in the fall and we can’t wait for you to hear it!

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!

JM: Thank you all very much for the opportunity

David: Thanks for having us!
