Q & A With Myosotis

Q & A With Myosotis

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Hey Bobby, thanks for having us. There´s a lot of stuff happening around the band at the moment and our fans have been soo patient, therefore we´re stoked to announce that most importantly there´ll be new music from us. We´ll release the first new single since 2018 called: WHAT IF… and couldn´t be more excited about it. In 2020 there´s gonna be 3 new Music videos + livestreams + a few shows (fingers crossed) in Germany.

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

The band was founded in 2017 and we´re still in our original line-up

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

We all have been musicians before Myosotis and played our part in various projects, but all of us individually looked for something different and when we met to jam, more or less by accident, we instantly knew, that there´s this so called “chemistry” in the room and we never looked back.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

That is a very wide area. Max & Julian come from a Jazz/Blues/Prog background, while some of us grew up with Hardcore & Punk. We´re all 90´s kids, that´s why we all fell for the NuMetal wave and we still cherish the “old” days.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

I think when we started, we didn´t really paid a lot of attention to, what image we´re transferring, as long as our music is heard and understood, therefore we were quickly categorized as just another Metalcore band. Last year we focused more on what the image, but more importantly the message is we want to get across and we hope that our listeners will understand that what we do goes far beyond just Metalcore.

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

We´re still at the very start and given the fact that there´s more accessible music out there than ever before, you´re starting from scratch if you´ve been hidden from the public eye for as long as we were absent. So our goal right now is to increase our network and make our family bigger.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

I love writing as it my way of expressing my thoughts and preserve my memories, but nothing beats playing live and sharing your feelings instantly with the crowd.

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Our songs mainly focus on depression and anxiety. Each member of the band has his own backstory and we´ve been through some tough times in our lives and were fortunate enough to find a way (and be able) to express our feelings about those times in music. With that ability we want to help people who feel isolated and depressed themselves and show them, that we´re not just sing about empty words or promises. That we want to create this “MYO-family” for real and let everyone know: You´re not alone!

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

There´s already quite a few hahah.

To point one out: We played a show in Switzerland and had a video shoot scheduled the next day in central Germany, therefore we rented an Airbnb in Basel to be close to the border in order to have easy access to the highway. At the time we got to the Airbnb we couldn´t get a hold of our host. After numerous failed call attempts and resisting the cold for at least an hour he let us in eventually and we quickly realized that there´s not enough room for the 6 of us, as we could only see 2 sofas in there. There was a bedroom with a gigantic bed, but he accidently double booked the place, so he could only offer us that tiny room with the sofas. It was pretty late, so we thought: “What the hell, let´s just crash on the floor for a few hours and then get going”. We ended up with the drivers staying on the couch, one of us right on a concrete floor, the other puzzled his bed with some toys from the host´s child and one crashed in the shower, the other one in the bathtub. We woke up completely hung over and then realized that the guys who booked the gigantic bedroom, never showed up… Bummer.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

To eat one of her home baked cookies she brought to a show and write down in detail how they taste in her little diary, while she´s watching you.

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

The majority is hahah. Some of us don´t really spend a lot of time with their families but our friends are very supportive

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Just DO it! It has never been easier to make music and distribute it all over the world. With all the information out there and great tutorials on nearly every topic, you can technically DIY up to a level that will even fund your lifestyle. So don´t be afraid, if you really want it, get started.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Without a doubt HIGH VOLTAGE. The Energy from the crowd is just soooo insane every time we play that song.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

My first concert ever was Slapshot in my tiny little hometown and I was hooked instantly. I said to myself this is what I want to do. Even though I´m not a fan of their music in particular, but that was my first experience with heavy music live and I will always be thankful for that.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

All of us love to travel the world. So supporting one our favorite bands like Northlane, Parkway Drive or Architects on a world tour would be a dream come true. But a tiny Japan Tour with our friends would do the trick too 😉

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Having someone to join the MYO family at every concert we played.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

It would be something in the Music universe. We´re already working as Managers, Producers or Studio musicians, therefore the changeover wouldn´t be too hard, but being a performing artist in your own band is just the shit 😉

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

We geared up quite a lot recently. So basically, we´re very self-sufficient now, having our live rack with IEMs always with us. We´re exclusively using Line 6 Helix for guitars and Bass and Shure Microphones for vocals all direct outs, therefore it´s easy peasy to set up a show in terms of audio. The visual effects we implemented are on a different page, but more of that when you guys visit a show 😉

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

It is very diverse, but also very short living. We come from a generation where you listen to an album in it´s entirety and even having songs grow on you after a while. Right now, if you don´t make an impression after 5 seconds or some random Instagrammer or youtuber is recommending your tune, you´re gone.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

I hope that anyone who doesn´t know us is reaching out and get to know us.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Yeah. We would like to thank everyone who supported us from day one and have been so incredibly patient for the new stuff to come out. We wanna make it up to you! So make sure to tune in on 07/17 for What If…

And for anyone else just discovering us, we thank you your spending your precious time on checking us out and hope our music will make your life a bit brighter.

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!

Thanks guys!
