Q & A With Mike From Wasting Time

Q & A With Mike From Wasting Time

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

Mike: We’ve got a new single coming out entitled, “My Limited French”, which we’ve just finished recording a few months ago. Check it out on all major streaming services on July 24th! Our second album, “Once More Without Feeling” will be released sometime in the fall too.

Q & A With Mike From Wasting TimeXS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

Mike: The current lineup of the band has been active since 2017, which was when I first met Vlad and found out that he was looking for a bassist. The band had existed back in the early 2000s, but broke up around 2009 and hadn’t been active since.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

Mike: My first motivation being in a band was to find a much needed distraction from the boredom of high school. I didn’t really know any other students there who shared a similar interested in the type of music that I loved, which was at the time (and still is) punk. I’d made one friend there who loved Green Day, and he needed a bassist for his to complete his band. I bought the cheapest bass, joined up and haven’t stopped playing since.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

Mike: I was 18 when I joined my first band and couldn’t be bothered with lessons. Tried learning my favorite songs by ear and from tabs on the internet. I haven’t found a valid reason to stop playing since.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

Mike: We’re a mostly upbeat band, so hopefully we’re conveying something positive with our music. Sunshine and lollipops, perhaps?

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

Mike: Play as much as we can, and be heard by as many people as possible, and then world domination. MWUAHAHAHAHA!

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

Mike: I’m sure at least half or all of my bandmates will disagree with me, but I’m all about playing live. I just love the buzz I get when playing music with my bandmates on stage in front of a crowd

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Mike: All lyrics come from our singer, Vlad. I mentioned that we have a few love songs earlier, so that may be the predominant theme by numbers so far.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

Mike: Enjoying what I do, having fun playing the songs that I play and not wanting to strangle anyone who I play with.

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

Mike: Yes. My family and friends have always been supportive. I see a lot of them at our hometown shows and I couldn’t ask for more.

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

Mike: Always tune your instrument!

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Mike: “Only You”, “Sick Inside” and our upcoming single, “My Limited French”.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Mike: Hearing The Beatles when I was 4 made me love music and in a way that passion for music manifested into what I do today when I play.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Mike: Joy Division, Green Day and The Beatles.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

Mike: Our upcoming album, since I feel that it is our best work to date.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

Mike: I’d probably take a crack at either becoming an accountant or some Social Media personality talking about comic books.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Mike: I like to use my trusty Ernie Ball Stingray bass and my Fender Bassman 800 amp.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

Mike: It’s in need of a bigger rock presence overall.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Mike: I still listen to CDs.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Mike: Stay safe!

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us at XS ROCK!

Thank you for the interview.
