Q & A With Jake Earley From The Lonely Ones

Q & A With Jake Earley From The Lonely Ones

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows, or announcements?

We’ve been in hiding and dying to get out. Covid-19 has kind of put our touring to a standstill, but we are jam-packed with new releases, have a new cover of a Queen song coming, and we have dates announced starting in October with more in the works. We are ready to be busy again.

XS ROCK: How long has the band been together?

The band started out as a group called Bobaflex who have been around 10-15 years but since the founding member’s departure in 2019 we have formed a group with the existing member so we very seasoned in the game but very new with the name and music.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?

Honestly, everything else was mind-numbing and boring. No inspiration had struck me as music does, and no better energy than a rock show. It’s all the motivation I needed.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

I love them both almost equally but if I had to pick one it would probably be writing and recording. Nothing feels the best like getting excited about a new song and the excitement to show it to your fans and hopeful new faces.

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

We usually are in bed by 8 pm so we stay out of trouble 😉

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

Not so much a strange request but the strangest timing to where on two separate occasions I’ve had girls ask me to sign their boobs right in front of my mom. One time she had a pen.

XS ROCK: Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?

My parents couldn’t be any more supportive. I’m very lucky with how much they push me to live in a van with 8 other smelly gentlemen for a living. Best parents ever.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Honestly, I can’t say the names at the moment cuz the songs aren’t out yet but we have some songs a little on the heavier side that I’m very excited to throw down live with my friends.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

While most of the guys have a classic rock influence I’m definitely the metal one in the band. I love anything with melody and heaviness. One of my favorite bands of all time and big writing inspiration has been a band called In Flames. They’ve always had a melodic tone to their music but can also throw down hard and they get it right.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

If I could pick whatever I wanted I would honestly go big or go home. An arena tour with Metallica would be pretty jammin’.

XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

It would be joining Bobaflex, I was about to give up and just be a line cook at an Applebee’s or something but the Bobaflex guys believed in me and gave me a chance, and now there’s no going back unless I explode, which would be gnarly.

XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?

That is a scary question to think of, probably refer back to the Applebee’s line cook answer unfortunately haha.

XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?

Currently I am rocking a kemper profiler because I am a millennial and wanna make the tube boomers mad at me(just kidding I love em both). But I’m just rocking that and a Jim Root custom orange 2×12 cabinet. My weapons of choice are a black on black Fender Stratocaster named the boogieman and a G&L telecaster cherry sunburnt color that I named the Sheriff. Those are my go-to’s.

XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?

I think the rock scene is getting better by the day in my opinion, we are getting a lot of bands such as tool, slipknot, even rock/metal groups on the other spectrum like dance Gavin dance who are getting on the billboard charts along with the other music, it’s doing a lot of good for our scene and helping everyone out.

XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?

Uhmmmm…. I can do a pretty good Carl Wheezer impression from Jimmy Neutron.

XS ROCK: If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?

They’re for any fan of modern and classic rock or metal, all of our influences mesh really well in our songwriting and can really relate with anyone who enjoys that type of music.

XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?

Be sure when the world opens up again to come see us when we are in town and check out our music. Keep updated with what The Lonely Ones are doing. We tour like hell and we hangout with everyone. We hope to make some new friends on this new chapter.

XS ROCK: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with XS Rock!
