Q & A With Eoghan MacSheain and Emer McLaughlin From The Midnight Preachers

Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

We have just released our latest single ‘Pusher Woman’, produced by John Henry & Mixed and Mastered by Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal. Regarding live shows, we can’t wait to get out on the road again but for now we’re busy honing our live sound and performing.

How long has the band been together?
We have been together since 2016.

What was your main motivation for starting or being in a band?
We were inspired by the greats… Janis Joplin, Freddie, Jim Morrison.. It works for us as an outlet for creativity.

Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Ideally, playing our original music for a live audience.

Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Hmm… we plead the fifth.

What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
To play any of our own songs, lol.

Were your parents supportive of your aspirations to play in a rock band?
Very supportive. We’re grateful for that.

What are your favourite tracks to play live?
Pusher Woman

Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
For Emer, Janis because she’s so free and confident. And for Eoghan, probably Keith Richards – same reason.

If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Rory Gallagher would have to be on there. If we’re talking about people who are still on the go, probably The Rolling Stones. Maybe Peter Tosh – mix it up a bit!

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
We’ve been fortunate enough to share the stage with some rock legends, and we’re greatly appreciative of that.

If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Emer would be creating something – art most likely. Eoghan would be… ideally, voice acting 🙂 And owning dogs.

What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Emer plays Ibanez Basses – a really cool Roadster, the same model as Phil Lynott. Eoghan is endorsed by DiMarzio Pickups, Vigier Guitars, hailing from Paris, and on the acoustic side of things, Breedlove Guitars.

What do you think of the current music scene?
Just hoping everyone is safe and well, and that the positives from this situation result in good creative spells for everyone. 🙂

For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Eoghan has been growing tomatoes, and they are simply fabulous. Emer makes clothes – which are also fabulous, but not quite as tasty.

If someone had never heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
Skynyrd mixed with Queens Of The Stone Age 🙂

Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
We just want to thank you for giving us the platform. We appreciate it. Hope that you and your families are all safe and well.

Thanks again for taking the time to talk with XS Rock!
