XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?
Björn: Hello! Well, the latest news right now is that we are in songwriting mode and preparing for the new record that we hope will be out at the end of the year. Right now we actually have a new single ready and I hope that we might be able to release that single in October/November. It´s probably the most “pop” song we have done so far :p. it still has heavy guitars, solos, and more but it´s a real sing-along song! Hopefully, the world will back to “normal” during 2021 so we can go out and play some shows.
XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?
Björn: We been together now for 7 years! Time really flies haha. But this line-up with Jonathan on drums been together for about 1,5 year now and hopefully we will still be playing together when we are old and can’t wipe our asses ourself 😉
In Sweden we have a word for classic rock, we call it “Gubbrock” in English that would be kind of “old man rock” so I hope we can do some “gubbrock” when we are old
XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?
Björn: Being in a band for me has always been about social getting together with a bunch of friends. I love it! Just get to hang, talk shit, drink, play music. I mean that’s the dream, right? I believe it´s important to have an outlet from “normal” life. We work, we pay bills and bla bla bla, so getting together with your friends, hanging out and playing music it´s life! I´m still very motivated to be in a band, more important than ever! I mean I´ve been with the band longer then I´ve been with my girlfriend hahaha.
XS ROCK: What is your music background?
Björn: I have parents and grandparents that are very into music so for me the music has always been there. I think there are pictures of me chewing on my dad’s guitar cables as a child haha. I started as a drummer and that was my main instrument for many years. I had a guitar but that was more for using at home. But later in life I moved to Stockholm and well drums aren’t the easiest instrument to have in an apartment so I started playing more guitar. Nowadays I only play guitar :p sometimes I try to play the drums and see if I “still got it” haha I play along to “surrounded” by the band Dream Theater, and if I nail that song I know that I still got it on the drums :p but the stamina for playing a double bass drum! That’s gone forever….
XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?
Björn:I think people might see us as a bit more serious then we might be. That meaning we are a pretty happy bunch of people but when listening to our music we might come across as a bit more “serious” in our image. I wish I could write some more party tunes but I always write crappy songs when I try to follow a mold or how to say. Better to just go with the flow.
XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?
Björn: That’s a good question! Are we going to be rockstars? I guess not but you still need to have some kind of goal right? I think for us our goal is to continue to create good music and do live shows. I wish to expand our fan base as much as possible! And I dream to go on a small tour for like 2 weeks or something, that would be awesome! So hey BRING US ON TOUR haha
XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?
Björn: Tough question! I really love the studio and recording process, I actually to the recording and mixes for the band. But as mentioned before getting to hang with your friends, go on a road trip and do a live show that is something special. Can I be the neutral swede here and don’t choose side 😉
XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Björn: Looking back at our lyrics I can see a red line. The lyrics are often about believing in yourself and do the things you want to do! don’t let anybody else control your life.
This subject just happens haha it´s not planned in any way so I guess it is straight from the heart? But I have a wish that we could write more lyrics that are a bit more “happy” to show that we are pretty fun dudes
XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?
Björn: Be as good as you can be! I really wish I would have practice more as a kid but I as too lazy. Music is my passion and I love good players but I´m not a Yngwie or Vai. BUT I do find that I might be good at the things we do, like writing riffs and so. So the most important thing for me is to follow your impulses and write the music YOU want to write, don’t write for anyone else and it doesn’t hurt if you can play your instrument.
XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.
Björn: I guess one thing that comes to mind is when we played a rock show in Lidköping and there were this older couple dancing “old folks dance”. They were preeeeeetty drunk and I remembered “please don’t dance to our music cause I´m gonna lose it” and well we started with this pretty fast and heavy song and yes they were dancing! I had a super hard time singing because I was trying not to laugh! And they fell on the floor and they were all over the place! That was pretty fun! Another time (actually our first gig ever) we managed to clear to place of people during my guitar sound check! I went to the amp, turned up the gain, and did some “chugga chugga” turned around and all the people left haha. To our defense, the audience wore cowboy hats and were 60+…..
XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?
Björn: do we have fans??? Haha no but I don’t believe we have gotten any strange request like that. Maybe there is the local drunk that shouts “play credence” but nothing more than that! Maybe we could get some nice request when we tour hehe
XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?
Björn: Hellyeah! That´s never been a problem! And I think that my partner know that I need music in my life to function as a human being so she is supportive
XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?
Björn: Don’t worry about what other people think! Do what YOU want to do and write the music YOU want to. Also getting to know the technical side of things like recording, doing video edit and more is a good thing. There isn’t any money in this business for small bands so if you can do as much as possible by yourself that’s awesome!
Also make sure to involve the whole band, if there is someone in the band that is into for example video let him be the creative video dude haha. But also have respect for each other! Just because you are the guy/girl that wants to play 17 live shows in a week and rehearse 9 times as well during that week that doesn’t mean that everybody else can.
It´s is also about make compromises don’t forget that.
XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?
Björn: I really like “Think”, “The Mountain”, “Sunrise” and our latest single “In the blink of an eye” I really like the songs where we can groove and put some jam spots in.
XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?
Björn: first band I was into was KISS! And come on its KISS the ultimate performers hahaha. Then I got into Yngwie, Dream Theater, Marillion, and more. I´m a heavy music consumer. But it all comes down to seeing KISS perform as a kid, that really changed me.
XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?
Björn: WOW great question! I would try to have some kind of red line with the line-up. I mean I like artists like Tori Amos but I don’t think we would fit on a bill together hehe.
but something like this: Alter Bridge, Freak Kitchen, The Quill, King´s X, Black Stone Cherry, and US! I think that would be awesome.
XS ROCK: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
Björn: I said in another interview that surviving is our greatest accomplishment so far.
I still believe that. I mean having a band for 7 years is tough! When I hear other bands saying it´s like a marriage I can totally relate to that. You go through things together ups and downs.
XS ROCK: If you weren’t performing in a band what kind of career do you think you would have?
Björn: well since I can’t make a living on music I have no other choice then to have another career haha so I´m actually an engineer in mechanical construction.
XS ROCK: What type of equipment do you use for live shows?
Björn: So happy to finally get this question!!! I´m a gear nerd.
For guitars, I use a Schecter banshee elite with custom Schecter USA pickups. My second guitar of choice is my old Yamaha RGX-TT (Ty Tabor model).
I recently went from an ENGL amp to a REVV. REVV is custom manufacture from Canada and makes amazing amps! Really love them.
Pedal wise I´m quite “easy going” for being a gear freak. I got a Zakk Wylde Wha pedal, Zakk Wylde Phaser, A tremolo, and a delay pedal.
XS ROCK: What do you think of the current music scene?
Björn: Boring? Feels like the rock music scene is struggling, at least in Sweden.
People don’t seem to have the patience for live music, they rather go for pre-recorded DJ stuff. But you know rock used to be underground and I think that this is the way it is. Sometimes its popular and sometimes it is not, it comes in waves. But I wish people would be more open to seeing a live band and paying for the music.
People need to stop being so damn spoiled and comfortable sometimes haha.
XS ROCK: For anyone that doesn’t know you, what would they be surprised to know about you?
Björn: I wish I could say that I held any funny record or something like that but I don’t :p I´m a pretty good beer drinker! Always something hehe.
XS ROCK: Is there anything that you’d like to promote or say to your fans out there?
Björn: Yes I would like to recommend people to follow us on social media.
